Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, What a wonderful opportunity for ...and you!! I went on a similar three week trip when I was in high school with a small group one summer. There was only one other girl so it was ffffuuuuunn!! I can certainly understand your concerns about how your body will hold up. I'd be concerned too. Is there any way you can get on Lotronex before then for you IBS? That would at least help put that considerable worry to rest. Do you have things that help you to sleep when you need to? What about helping with all the walking that you will be doing? Do you use a cane, wheelchair or scooter? Trying to come up with as many adaptive and assitance things as possible will be a big help. Aase Marit travels alot . She would be a good resource. It sounds wonderful!!

Guest guest
asked me on Friday to please please please go with her on her school trip to the UK in June this year. I've been thinking about it since she first found out about the trip in the fall of 2003. We will be in Ireland for a week, then ferry over to Swansea, Wales, spend time in Wales, then bus to Bath for a couple of days. Then drive to London via Stonehenge for the last 3 days of the trip. Anyone on the route in Ireland (see itinerary below), near Swansea area, Bath, or London? I know a couple people live near London.... I was to the UK in 1971 for a month with my sister and we rented a car and drove around England and Scotland, then flew over to Ireland and took bus trips around parts of Ireland. I was in London in 1976 on a university class trip where we also went to Paris to continue our class. That was a 2 week course. So, I'm excited and nervous about this new trip to the UK because of how my body is falling apart and the horrible IBS I have.... Unfortunately, we will be on an overnight flight and I don't sleep except in my own bed.... Any suggestions to help me on the flight would be appreciated. We will be on a coach bus for the rest of the trip. I'm looking for an inflatable cushion to take with as I have a really bad time sitting for any length of time. Thanks in advance for any help! Guest guest
Bonnie, I don't have a lot of time right at the moment, but I know places like Dr. Leonard's and other online health places would have them if you look for " inflatable seat cushion " for pillow. I know there are others, I just can't bring them to mind right away. Do a search under Google, and I know you'll find something. Guest guest
Bonnie, I will write to you offlist about your trip to the UK as I'd love to think we could manage to meet up at some point! :-) As to making the flight easier, in 2001 I did a 26 straight flight to Australia on crutches and only a few months after surgery so everything I could find to help I used! If possible call your airline in advance to warn them of your condition (get back up from youe GP and specialists if necessary) most companies are very cooperative and will make sure you get assistance to and from the plane and with your luggage. I found Kuala Lumper adn Brisbane airport staff fantastic and I was met off the plane with a wheelchair and whisked through customs and bagge reclaim etc - and allowed to board first without the hassle of impateint people pushing and shoving too - it's certainly wirth asking for help that's for sure. As for on the flight, ask if you could have an unrestricted leg room seat, i.e, on a bulkhead/row front. The inflatable cushions are a real help as are the neck pillows you can buy as well. Here are a few links to places that do travel and inflatable cushions: http://www.putnams.co.uk/travel_pillows_seats_cushions.htm http://www.pinnaclepetsupply.com/bunzeeze.htm http://www.pocketseat.com/IDY052/cont/default.asp Apart from that it's just the usual flight precuations - getting up to hobble around to get the joints moving and exercising the limbs while seated. Try to drink plenty of water and ask your GP about precuationary medications that will help you endure the sitting and cramped conditions. I'll wrack my brain for anything else that helped me and drop you a note. Hope thise helps though. Love and hugs....Jo xxx

Guest guest
Re: Coming to the UK in June Is there any way you can get on Lotronex before then for you IBS? That would at least help put that considerable worry to rest. Do you have things that help you to sleep when you need to? What about helping with all the walking that you will be doing? Do you use a cane, wheelchair or scooter? Trying to come up with as many adaptive and assitance things as possible will be a big help. Aase Marit travels alot . She would be a good resource. It sounds wonderful!! ~~~~~~` Thanks for the tips, ! I don't know about the Lotronex... will have to visit with the GI doc again and get some meds for the diarrhea... I can usually manage some walking. I don't normally use a wheelchair and don't own a scooter. We do have a manual wheelchair we could take with since we are on a bus most of the time. I do have a cane I could take with if the joints act up. I was at the chiropractor today and he suggested a blowup swim ring kids use to sit on in the plane and in the bus....hadn't thought of that one!
