A cou5ple of years ago we went to St. Louis to visit some friends and I noticed that it seemed to get darker there earlier. So I am wondering if the farther away from the equator the shorter and or longer the days are. Any thoughts on this, or is my mind completely gone lol.Lin

Hi Lin,

yes, it is true that the farther away from the equator the less hours of sunlight per day in the winter months. The summer is the opposite. It is due to the tilt of the earth as it goes around the sun. My parents were in Iceland and it stayed light for 24 hours. The sun dips down but never sets. Weird huh?? They said that all of the hotels have thick black drapes on the windows so people can sleep. So it is basically six months of sun and six months of dark. I could not stand it!!!!!! Hope you are having a great day, Take care, Love Jai
