The summer is the opposite. It is due to the tilt of the earth as it goes around the sun. My parents were in Iceland and it stayed light for 24 hours. The sun dips down but never sets. Weird huh?? They said that all of the hotels have thick black drapes on the windows so people can sleep. So it is basically six months of sun and six months of dark. I could not stand it!!!!!!
