Dawn - I can see where that might happen, living in New York and people just assuming you mean the big city.....so you're right, you definitely can relate to how Barb and I feel :)

I'll bet that Holly will look so beautiful when she comes back from the groomer's. But you're right about the cost, 's a big dog too and she costs a fortune to get groomed. Plus, she has a double coat, so she needs to be done more often....usually every couple of months. Fortunately she actually likes getting brushed and she's very fond of bath tubs full of water (as you would learn were you to leave the bathroom door ajar for her around here :)) The only problem we have when we bring her is the leads they use to keep the dogs in place, while they're brushing them. She really hates being tied down, so she bites straight through them.....once she destroyed 13 in one visit. We kept warning them to use metal, but they would assure us the leads were too thick for her to bite through.....foolish, foolish people ;) After all, we're talking about a dog who ate my entire box-spring mattress when she was 8mths old.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to seeing her christmas picture when you get it.....I'm sure she'll look adorable. And thank you again for the offer. With any luck, I'll someday be able to get around well enough to visit everyone. You've all been so nice to me. Have a great evening. Tricia

Tricia,

What type of dog do you have? 13 of those leads and a box spring mattress when she was a puppy. Did you notice that she had more bounce to her step. Sorry it is after 2am and I have to get up in another 4 hours. Well this is going to be a long day.

Hope you have a good Thursday.

Lin

Lin - We actually have three dogs. , the one I was talking about is a Great Pyrenees. She's a 136lb ball of white fur. And, I gotta say, coming home to find her surrounded by the remains of the box-spring she looked proud of herself. Ever since she was a puppy, she's had horrible separation anxiety, and I guess it was her way of saying "you can leave me alone if you want, but you're gonna suffer the consequences." Fortunately, (knocking on wood here) she appears to have grown out of the destructive phase though she still hates being left alone.

Hope your Thursday goes well :) Tricia wrote:

Tricia,

Before I met my husband he had 2 Irish setters who were like that he would come home and they would have a whole in the carpet, sofa and I think the bed, so he usually took them along. One time he left his male at his folks house and he chewed up the seat on his Dad's john Deer tracker. I think I heard that mentioned every spring when it was time to mow the lawn.

I think those Great Pyrenees are so beautiful. What are the 2? We have 3 cats and 1 chocolate Lab.

take care,

Lin

Lin,

Just saw this post and had to laugh! Years ago my god parents were one puppy away from being in the Guinness World Book of Records with the most Irish Setter Puppies. Mommy and Daddy were Happy and and had 23 pups in her litter! They all survived and destroyed the kitchen where they were kept until they found new homes! The money made from the puppies had to go to the renovation of the kitchen. You could only imagine how cute all those puppies were! I just know after that litter was no longer aloud to have puppies! Off to get fixed she went! They are gorgeous dogs though and so incredibly affectionate! I will never forget them!!! Have a great day and thought you might like that story! LOL and Best Wishes!

Dawn,

23 puppies and they all survived, I don't think you are old enough to remember this show called That's Incredible, you guys and the puppies could of been on that. We raised Labs for a number of years. Our first Mother was yellow, so we bread her to a black Lab and she had 12 puppies, her normal amount, but we had 6 chocolate and 6 black. We have a picture of this very blond Mom with all these black and chocolate pups, it looks like she is a wet nurse for the real mother. Thanks for sharing that story I will have to tell Dwight. He will appreciate the damage part. We don't see very many Irish Setters around here, I think I may of seen 1. Other than the one that Dwight had.

Have a great weekend,

Lin

Lin,

You do not see Irish Setters in this area either. The only one's that I even know of, are my little brothers best friend had one years ago, and our old police chief use to have one named ! Both are long gone along with Happy and ! They are such gorgeous dogs and would not mind having one if they did not need so much exercise!! LOL Always!

Lin - A great Uncle of mine had an Irish Setter when I was very young. Beautiful dog and very intelligent.....his was also exceptionally well behaved, but then he was good at keeping things in order ;)

Our other two dogs are Spencer a 9yr old Shetland Sheepdog, and Skylar a 7yr old mutt....she's got the body of a golden retriever, the reddish brown coloring of a chow with the black muzzle of a german shepherd and the white tipped tail of a sheltie. We had a kitty too, a tuxedo cat named Chapie (short for Chaplin, i.e. Charlie) but she passed away at the end of October.

We bought a disposable digital camera for the holidays, so if we can ever figure out how to use it, perhaps I'll be able to post a picture of the furry side of the family :) Take care. Tricia wrote:
