Guest guest
My son was casted yesterday for a STARband and the orthotist gave us measurements of about a 1/4 inch offset which, if I figured it out right, is around 6 to 7 mm. He kept making comments that made it seem like it was really insignificant, but it's very noticeable to us. What are the criteria for determining whether it is mild/moderate/severe like I hear a lot of you referring to? Where does 6 to 7 mm fall within that? Thanks, Sara mom to Austin, getting STARband in 2 weeks.
Guest guest
Hello. Yes, 1/4 inch would be around 7mm. Usually, the severity measurements are made in mm. To the best of my knowledge, these are the measurements that most Orthotists go by: Under 6mm is considered " within normal ranges " 6-10mm is considered mild 11-15mm Moderate over 15mm Severe Your Son's measurements would categorize him as Mild, however the #s don't always tell the whole story. There have been many people who banded their babies who were considered " mild " as far as the #s, but the parents were not happy with how their baby's head LOOKED. that is the real deciding factor for most people. You want to be happy with how your baby's head actually looks. With my Duaghter, I actually specifically never asked her measurements until the very end of her treatment, because I wanted to base my decisions on how it looked to ME, and not on her #s. Good luck with your decision and keep us updated.
