Guest guest
Welcome Back The worst is over now the healing can begin ) My surgeon says that people experience a lot of gas after surgery sometimes and he prescribes an antacid maybe trying a little warm water might help but you should really consult your surgeon on the matter. Any way I am still a pre-op so feel better and try to sleep on an incline and not flat on your back or in a recliner this should be way more comfortable. Hope this helps Lori Anne pre-op Lap RNY 8/25/
Guest guest
Hi, I had my surgery on Tuesday 7/8 & all went well. The first day after was hell, but each day gets better. Has any one experienced alot of gas after surgery and does it go away? Also when I try to lay flat in a regular bed I seem to get something that comes back up my throat & makes me choak. Doea any body have any answers to this as well? I am now on protein drinks, liquids & 3 1oz. meals of pureed food. for the next six weeks. Any meal suggestions would be appreciated. Any words of wisdom & answer to my questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks orny 7/
Guest guest
Hi ) Congrats on your huge step forward!!! You're right, it does get better each day. You didn't mention if you had lap or open surgery and since I had lap I can give you some insight into the gas issue there. During the lap procedure your torso is filled with air allowing the surgeons more visibility and room to work. After the operation the gas has to escape and often comes out from your organs and joints. I had awful pain in my shoulders and hips for a few days after surgery while the gas was leaving my bod. Also, with your new rerouted intestinal track, its common to experience gas. I know I had a lot and very loose stools for about a week post-op. This will all get better with time too. Guest guest
Lay on two pillows to keep you from choking when that stuff comes up, and make sure you walk around alot. THat is the best thing to get rid of gas pains. Becky Laprny Preop > Hi, > > I had my surgery on Tuesday 7/8 & all went well. The first day after > was hell, but each day gets better. Guest guest
Hi Congrats on getting through the surgery successfully, and yes the gas is pretty normal unfortunately. It will get better over time, although it's been my experience that I am a lot more gassy than I used to be. Guest guest
, I can answer the gas questions and the ones about laying on your back, but as far as food, I'm STILL (at 3 weeks out) not allowed to have any so someone else can take that. The gassy feeling is very common and will go away I promise. My first week out I got it a lot and followed my doctor's advice to get rid of it. I walked. I was really not feeling so hot (of course no one would be would they) so I just walked up and down my street a time of two and it let up for a while. When I finally started exercising for real, it went away permanently. It does take about a week or so but it will go away. Try propping a few pillows under your head and chest so they are elevated higher than the rest of you. That awful choking feeling should cease after that. Congratulations on coming to the loosing side! 432/423 (6/27/03-not weighed since)/150 Just Got Home after surgery, have questions? Hi, I had my surgery on Tuesday 7/8 & all went well. Guest guest
-When in the hospital you have no choice but to walk. It helps with the healing as well as releasing gas. I am currnely trying different drinks. Todays was not that great, but yesterday I had an Isopure drink 20oz. 40gr pf protein & the flavour was Alpine punch. It was really tasty. -- In Gastric_Bypass_Family , " jstreeboo " wrote: > Welcome home!!! I can't wait to join you on the losers side!!! Guest guest
Congrats . Sounds like you are having a perfectly normal recovery. The gas is very normal and although I've heard walking helps, it didn't help me. I took phazyme (sp?). Check with your surgeon. I don't know about the reflux thing laying down, hopefully someone will have a clue for you.
