Guest guest
Hi Tanja, I was just thinking... If you are going to start off with one of the " milder " narcotics, try to ask for a depot product which lasts 12 hours. I think that is important, not to be on a " roller coaster " , where the effect of the pain meds go up and down all the time. That is not good for people like us who have chronic pain problems. I don't know if you can get e.g. DHC kontinus (dihydrocodeine contious release) in Canada. But when I used it, it was not on the list of approved drugs here, but our equivalent to the FDA gave a dispensation so the pharmacy could import it for me. The only problem I had with it, was that sometimes the company was all out of the medication, causing patients here who used it to have to switch to other meds for a while. Did not happen often, but one lady I know ended up in hospital once when it happened, with major spasms... I discussed it with my pharmacy, so we made sure to always have some boxes in stock with my name on it. Once when it happened, that stock helped both me and another EDS'er who lives in my neighbor municipality, I just told the pharmacy that they could give her from the ones reserved for me. Not long after I changed to OxyContin though, and have been on it ever since. Aase Marit
