I asked him if he thought it would be safe for her to resume wearing her helmet. He basically said he didn't agree with helmets but whatever... I brought her helmet with us and showed it to him and handed him some before and during pictures while I commented that I felt the shape of her head was improving, he handed them back without looking at them and said "I'll take your word for it". I just got his report and he stated "I doubt that the helmet is beneficial, but I think it is safe, so I did not object if they continue to use it" - like I needed his permission. He also stated that "the cranial asymmetry is still present, particularly in the parietooccipital areas". How frustrating to have your child in a helmet for 10 weeks and have such negative feedback! It's like they're trying to make you feel an inch tall and insinuate that you are doing something unnecessary to your child. UGH, I hate it when they make me question myself.... We still have a long way to go as her Craniofacial Dr. estimated it would take 6 months to a year for optimal correction. On the positive side the Craniofacial Dr. felt that it would be safe to continue treatment!!! Now if I could just get the Neurosurgeons comments out of my mind... There must be something in the air..... :-) Don't second guess yourself... you've made the best decision for you and your family, and that's what matters. My take on it is even if she never benefited from a helmet (looking at the pics, it IS doing it's job- she looks great) it wouldn't hurt her, so you shouldn't feel bad about doing it. What is the consensus on her optic nerves? We've been praying for her!
