Hi Everyone ! !

I am a little over a month out (s/d 5/20/03). I've lost 35 lbs! My

concerns are this.. I am EXTREMELY tired recently. To the point

where I barely have enough energy to wash my face. I spoke to the

doctor who advised me to make sure I'm taking my vitamins &

protein..to be honest, I'm ok with the vitamins but the protein

shakes are hard to get in. I also know I'm not eating " enough " .

Sometimes when I eat I either get a belly ache (nothing terrible) or

sometimes I vomit... so I'm almost turned off by food. Other people

I know who've had this surgery say they had experienced this too and

that it's an adjustment period. I just wanted to know if anyone else

went through this and when should I start getting concerned? I've

been feeling run down for a few days now. I go next month for my lab

work and hope to clear up any problems, if any, at that point.

My second concern, and a frivolous one too.... but anyway, my fingers

have been shrinking. I went from an 8.75 ring finger to a 7.5 ring

finger. My problem is that we are planning on getting engaged soon

and the ring I am getting will be difficult to size in the future due

to it's design. I was wondering if your fingers still continue to

loose 'weight'. I'm sure I may go down to maybe a 6.75 or 7... but

can it be less than that????

Thanks,

Patrizia

Patrizia, you could be experiencing some vitamin deficiencies and

should find out how your levels are once you get your blood tests

done; however, its good to remember that your body has undergone a

major trauma because of the surgery and it will take its toll on

you. All your body's energy is going towards healing and after wls,

we are not able to consume extra food to help speed up or cover for

the healing process. It all takes time to pass hon, but it does get

better. Keep in touch with your doc.

As far as the food goes and getting in more protein to promote

quicker healing, just keep trying with those shakes if nothing else

works. If you can't tolerate the shakes, find a list of high protein

foods and start experimenting with those. Early on, even while

experiencing nausea, pinto or other beans (in soups, refried, etc)

sat well with me and even tho they contain higher carbs than I

wanted, I kept with them because I knew I was getting in good protein.

Rings, rings, rings... 6.5 months out and I can no longer wear my

beautiful jewelry *sigh*, but I figure I'll just get them resized.

My wedding set was my biggest concern, but our jeweler said he can

work with it. My rings are 6.5 (my hands and feet were the only

skinny places on my body when I was MO, lol) and now need to be taken

down 2 full sizes. A lot of jewelers don't like to take them down

more than one size, but I have no choice than to trust their skills.

I'm not willing to give up my original set for a new one.

Good luck,

Toi

Hi there :)

I experienced this too and found that by increasing the protein,

decreasing the carbs and beginning to take my iron supplements, I

started feeling better. Congrats on your weight loss AND upcoming

wedding :) And yup, fingers can DEFINATELY shrink. Is it possible

for you to choose a similar style band but one that can be resized?

Or perhaps you can get a makeshift wedding band until you've lost

the weight and then get the one you REALLY want? Another option is

to go with a half size smaller band that what you can wear now and

then if the ring is too large, have your engagement band resized and

with that being over your wedding band, it should prevent it from

coming off your finger? You can also get the band size that you

wear and add to the inside of it later. I have a similar issue with

my wedding band as the design goes completely around the band and

this makes it so that the band can't be resized. When my hubby and I

married, I was weighing about 250 lbs so it will be interesting to

see what happens as I lose past that. Fortunately, my engagement

band CAN be resized, and this is what I will do if need be :)

great job, patrizia! sounds like your fatigue is due

to " hibernation mode " . your body's trying to reserve fuel, but it

does help to give it some fuel & get some activity. exact same thing

was happening to a 1 month postie friend & once she concentrated on

her prot supps & a little walking, she now feels energized.

keep us posted.

Hi again :)

When you get your rings resized, be sure to have your jeweler save

the gold that was taken out. Then with the extra gold, you can use

it to create a new ring, pendant, etc. or redesign one of your

rings :)

Absolutely :)

I had the same problem with extreme fatigue beginning about 2 or 3

weeks post up until about 1 1/2 months out. At 2 1/2 months out, I

am now starting to get all the energy so many people speak of :) I

think that part of it for me is also the fact that I was so heavy

starting out that I needed to lose a substantial amount before

really starting to feel better.
