I just read your post and I feel so bad for you! As you might

remember, I also had two surgeries. I woke from my first surgery

noticing my midline was way off. In my case, the second surgery was

for cosmetic reasons only ... others may have not chosen to do it,

but I was devastated about how my face was altered with a crooked

bite. Anyway, as with you, I knew right away something wasn't right.

The surgeon kept trying to tell me the ortho could fix it. Like you,

my ortho tried in vain with complicated elastics, then he was brave

enough to tell me he couldn't do it. He also knew right away but

didn't say anything until he was sure. I cried right then and there

in the ortho chair. Thank God they have a separate room with a door

that they put me in to tell me the news, as the predicted I'd fall

apart. The thought of more surgery was awful.

Having said all that, I took a lot of time and in order to reassure

myself I was making the right decision, I went out and got second

opinions from other surgeons and and an ortho. You might want to

consider this just in case there are other options. It was six

months between my two surgeries ... I wish I had done it sooner, but

have no regrets getting the second opinions.

In terms of recovery, if this is any consolation, it was easier the

second time around. The first two weeks were the same, but after

that, for some reason, it didn't take as long to get back on my feet.

Post any questions and good luck. Again, I'm sorry. It stinks.
