Guest guest
Oh my God! My surgeon said the words I have feared the most! She admitted that my maxilla was brought forward to far and that I need to have the surgery redone. I am still in shock. All the posts I have read here of people having surgery redone and I thought surely all the problems I have had could be fixed orthodontically. Well, it ain't so. They advanced me too much and now the lower and upper are not matching, despite all the elastics pulling on the teeth. My chin needs to be done too. I am on Zanax and I'm still a nervous wreck. I cannot believe this. , HELP!!!!!
Guest guest
OMG ! I'm so sorry to hear that; I don't know what I would do if I was given that news. How far along are you, and what does your ortho have to say about this? Debs > Oh my God! My surgeon said the words I have feared the most! Guest guest
I'm (sorry for making look like susan wrote it, oops! My nerves are little frayed!). had to have surgery twice, too. So I was asking for her help! I am 11 weeks post op. They knew all along they screwed up and just didn't want to tell me. I would MUCH rather them have told me my first visit post op when they realized the mistake because I would have had it redone right then and there. As it is, I am just beginning to eat normally again and the puffiness is just going away and BAM! They slam me with this crap? I CANNOT believe it! And this is the University of Florida for Pete's sake. The best in the state! I am so disappointed and heartbroken and sick and I cannot stand it. > > Oh my God! Guest guest
By the way, I see my ortho tomorrow, but he has suspected it all along. He's been trying in vain to correct the problem by having elastics pull the upper back and the lower forward, but of course that is only teeth and not jaw. It's a band-aid, really. Thanks Deb. I hope you never have to go through this. > > Oh my God! My surgeon said the words I have feared the most! Guest guest
, I am devastated for you! I know it has happened to some people here, but that must seem like no consolation to you right now. I wish I could say something to make this easier for you. Please know that my thoughts are with you and that you have people here who'll support you in whatever ways we can. Guest guest
Hi , I don't know of a here who's had a second surgery. I said I would do it over if I had to, but .... I do have a friend who has to have her surgery redone due to relapse. I know how upset and angry she was about it. She's gone to a new ortho, but the same surgeon again (he was mine and I'd give him a second chance too), and she is now resigned to getting it done and over with. She was even out of braces when she got the news. Somehow she knew something wasn't right - she was in a lot of pain. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I feel for you. This is a difficult time, but as Irish says, the second time around can be easier as you know the drill. It's just having to put up with the numbness and crap for longer when you'd hoped to be putting it behind you. You can never predict when you're gonna be done with this stuff! Hang in there, whine anytime. > Oh my God! My surgeon said the words I have feared the most! She > admitted that my maxilla was brought forward to far and that I need > to have the surgery redone. Guest guest
You're right, I was thinking of Irish that had it redone but I knew you were very knowledgeable so I was thinking your name. Irish is who I meant. I know she understands what I'm going through. I am just at a loss. The problem is, my surgeon knew when she took my splint out at day 5 post-op that they screwed up. If she had only told me then, I would have said let's get right back up to the hospital and redo this right now! Instead, they get me this far through all the pain and torture not eating and all the swelling (I still have a ton) and now I have to do this all over again? She tells me the " maxillary register " (whatever that is) was " off " when they measured before the surgery because I was not in a completely relaxed position. Shouldn't they have known that could happen? These are top-notch, University surgeons. I just can't mentally cope with this again. I had to take Zanax to sleep last night. How do these people who have redos deal with it? I don't know if I can! Thanks for understanding . You're a good person to know. > > Oh my God! My surgeon said the words I have feared the most! Guest guest
Well, I wonder if they would have wheeled you back to the surgery at 5 days post-op. I don't recall hearing of a re-do being done that quickly. Personally I'd want to get over that first week or two at least before entertaining another surgery. Your body is weak, and it needs to rest up to go at it again. I can't say how you get through this as I haven't been in your position. Let the anger flow through you. Don't keep replaying what- ifs in your mind, or try to blame anyone. Sh*t happens to the nicest people, unfortunately it picked you this time around. Start to prepare again and try to focus on that end result if you can.
