Okay Im home from surgery having alot of pain that I think is normal

and today is better Im on my 4th day post op and I sipped one cup of

broth and 1/2 oz of jello and I have actually gotten in about 5 cups

of liquids today so far. My drain is still eaking pretty good though

is that normal?? I did get on my side for about a hour and it wasnt

that bad who am I kidding it hurt but I cant stand being on my back

any longer.

Is there any more suggestions for what I should drink IM drinking

Gatorade right now and the surgeon said he wants me to have that more

than water. Is there anything else I should try to eat or drink??

Also has any one had realy bad loose stool after this can I take

something for it??

Thanks a million guys you are all a great support team.

I hate to tell you anything Tammie because the things you mention

your doc told you to have-mine said avoid. Gatorade was a no no for

me. I could have Carnation Instant Breakfast, Crystal Lite, Enlive,

broth, cream soup, skim milk, and sugar free jello. Maybe you should

ask your doc on this one.

When I came home from the hospital I was off of clear liquids. See-

every doc is different!

With respect to that, all doctors are different. I wasn't allowed to

have anything BUT Gatorade, juice (of which neither I can stomach

because of the sugar content) water, and broth for my first week. No

jello, no s/f popsicles, no milk and no creamed soups. Now I'm only

allowed to have creamed soups, smoothies and cream of wheat/maltomeal in

addition to the other stuff. Make sure you do ask your doc for specific

guidelines because every surgeon has a different diet they think is

best.

Yeah, I was pretty much told the Carnation Instant Breakfast (Sugar-free)

Crystal Lite, Choice DM, jello (sugar-free) or sugar-free pudding.. Broth,

Boullion soups, cream soups, skim and powdered fat-free, sugar-free milks, and

water.. I've also added Propel to my list, Carb Solutions, and Decaffienated,

herbal sugar-free tea..

No Gatorade.. Or juice unless it's diluted half and half and no-sugar added..

I was surprised by the diet that she was instructed to do as well, but I

guess you should listen to your surgeon..

She's right, every doctor and wls plan seems to differ. But I do know that

sugar is a no-no... Later.

Caroline;

I'm with you on this one.. I think she should question his reasons for that

prescribed diet. She's the one that's going to feel like crap, not him..

Hmmmm... True, that we should follow our surgeon's advice, but I

think we should be ready to challenge what they tell us if something

doesn't sound right. Surgeon's aren't nutritionists and often they

defer to a nutritionist for guidance about what to eat following

surgery.

And just to add to this, it isn't the surgeon who will be dumping

after he's given his patient wrong advice!
