Guest guest
Pete: I frequently disagreed with Mona's posts, but decided not to respond. Per coercion - I'm against any coercion to any damn " recovery " group. Not one has any proof that their methodology works. I say - one dui, fine 'em and send them to some sort of " awareness " course. Two dui's - fine 'em, suspend their license, and put them on probation and subject them to UA's. No matter what measures are taken, when a person wants to drink and drive, they will drink and drive. As we know, this sometimes results in injury and death to innocent people. When a person needs/wants to drive, they will drive. My license was suspended (non-alcohol related) after a minor accident and I had no insurance, though it was the other driver's fault. I drove on a suspended license for two years - very carefully. I couldn't afford to fix it for two years, but I had to drive to work. So there aren't any perfect solutions. You can put a device on someone's car to keep them from driving drunk, so they take the keys to their spouses car and drive. Bottom line - coerced " treatment " is a stupid ass idea. I see it's decline coming slowly. Sorry if the tone of this post is " pissy " . I'm feeling a little " pissy " today. I wondered what happened if the support group said the newbie has to serve coffee (a common suggestion). Am I allowed to refuse to serve the black folks, but not to serve coffee altogether? What if they're all black? Or I don't want to serve white fols and they're all white? P. >>
