Going to Canada, anyone know the rules at the border?

So, I'm going up to the border with my kids and 2 of their friends to stay

overnight at my brother's " weekend getaway " (the brat!).

We are planning on going over the border to check out Vancouver.

Does anyone know if we have to do anything special? I will bring their birth

certificates. Since 2 of my daughter's friends are going, is that ok?

I heard it's ok going, but coming back may be a problem. Our passports are

expired, and their friend's don't have them.

You don't have to have a passport to go to Mexico. Do you for Canada?
