Guest guest
Donna, If you do not get a period, it would be because there is very little lining??? Perhaps you should see an RE?? Good Luck! Love,
Guest guest
Donna, Do you know if you have Asherman's? That is how I found out, I took Provera and did not get a period, I thought you had already been dx. I am sorry if I goofed on your history. Asherman's is a possibility if you are not having periods. You should have a period with Provera if you have a good lining and do not have scar tissue. If you have scar tisssue you may not have a period. When is your hysterogram (HSG)? Guest guest
Hi , I am seeing an RE now. My old ob/gyn just wasn't very proactive about my situation, so after 5 months of frustration and waiting, I switched to my new doc. I waited until 16 weeks post-D&C before I took the first round of Provera - wouldn't my lining have built up by then? It was my first MC, so I don't know what is " normal " as far as the body recovering, but most of my friends who have gone through the same thing got their periods in 4 - 6 weeks. I am the only one that just never got it. Hopefully, the hysterogram will give me some answers! Thanks for your post. All the best, Donna > Donna, > If you do not get a period, it would be because there is very little > lining??? Guest guest
Donna - It is my understanding that if you take Provera and don't get a period, then one of two things is wrong - you either don't have enough Estrogen to build a lining or you have scar tissue preventing the lining. It doesn't matter whether or not you've ovulated. Provera mimics the part of your cycle after ovulation anyway. In fact, both times I've taken Provera, it was because I was having an anovulatory cycle and both times, my period came three days after I took the last pill, right on schedule. I don't know about this group, but in the other group I belong to (the post depo provera), lots of women don't get their period after the Provera, so I know it happens. For them, though, it's usually because of lack of estrogen so there's no lining to shed. If it were me, I'd look into it a little further as to why it's not working for you. Just my thought... Kim K. Guest guest
Donna, No, you're not alone. I also took Provera (12 weeks after my D&C for a missed abortion), and I did not bleed. The RE I'm seeing now measured my estrogen level and said it was low. My understanding is that with low estrogen you don't ovulate and your lining doesn't build up. Thus you don't bleed when you take Provera. My RE isn't sure why my estrogen is all of a sudden low now (I had regular cycles prior to my miscarriage), but she did say that stress could bring this on. She called it hypothalamic amenorrhea. I found the following website on secondary amenorrhea informative: http://www.advancedfertility.com/amenor.htm Fran

Guest guest
Thanks for the info. everyone! My HSG is scheduled for July 8th - only 20 more days of waiting! I have not been " officially " diagnosed with AS yet. I started seeing my Re about 1 month ago. I left my original doctor and wanted to get a second opinion because I felt he was not being proactive enough by dismissing the possibility of AS. I was very concerned about the fact that I hadn't gotten a period, despite the 2 rounds of Provera. (I wasn't aware that if my lining wasn't built up enough that I wouldn't get a period. I just assumed that the Provera would automatically do it. Of course, my old doc never explained anything to me - that's why he's my " old " doc now!) The first time I saw my new doc, we discovered I was pregnant, so we never got as far as looking into the scar tissue matter. Now that I have had the D&C, he wants to do the HSG so we can figure out what's going on. He didn't mention the low estrogen levels, so I am going to ask about that. I have to call today to get the results of my blood work from yesterday, so I will inquire then. I am hoping and praying that the HSG reveals no scar tissue. But I have a bad feeling about this. But, I was able to get pregnant, so maybe it's not as bad as I am thinking it could be! Guess I'll find out soon. Best swishes to all, Donna > Donna, > > No, you're not alone. Guest guest
It's a good thing that you're having the HSG - hopefully it won't reveal scar tissue. I'l be thinking of you. Keep us posted. Liz S

Guest guest
Fran, I'm not sure if it was you or someone else that I responded to before about missing periods after a miscarriage. I will post again just in case. I met a woman last year who miscarried around the same time as I did. Her periods did not resume for at least 6 months after her D&C. We kept in touch because we both felt certain that we had Asherman's. Anyway, she did at least 3 rounds of Provera and did not get a period. She ended up doing a round of high dose birth control pills to kickstart her cycles. It worked and her cycles started up again as they were before she had the miscarriage. She is now pregnant. Anyway, just my two cents: your hormones can definitely be out of whack for quite some time after a miscarriage. This could be why your estrogen levels are so low (they wouldn't increase unless your body was getting ready to ovulate). Haley
