beta-blockers for asthma

Some doctors are now actually prescribing beta-blockers FOR asthma -

part of the paradoxical pharmacology movement. It seems beta-blockers

are actually helpful over the long run (not the short run).

As for myself, I'm back to Tilade. Unusual for adult asthma treatment

but it eliminates pneumonia and bronchitis for me, which used to

plague me every winter, and sometimes stay until next winter.

Hi Russ,

That is interesting... But I sure don't need a worsening now, that is

for sure. Also I was a bit reluctant to start it to begin with,

because it can worsen Psoriasis a lot, and since it is quite severe

as it is, that is not really something I would want. So with the two

things together, it may just not be worth it...

I am not familiar with Tilade, probably because drug names vary a lot

from one country to another. That is not the generic name, is it? I

started again with a puffer called Seretide here

(salmeterol/flutikasonepropionate) and also something called Mucomyst

here. Don't have the box here right now, so I don't have the generic

name... Hopefully it will work well when it gets a bit of time. Only

problem is that I get those bad infections in my mouth because of the

cortisone in the puffer. Those are awful and get so terribly bad at

times. That was the reason that I was off it for a while, I only used

Ventolin while needed, and that is not a good option...

Clear Day

I have Asthma and HBP and my Endocrinologist said I was not to take a

Beta-Blocker as it can worsen Asthma so I was given a Calcium-Channel Blocker

instead..

Hi Vee,

I was to go on beta blockers years ago for my migraines, but then we

went for a calcium channel blocker instead because of my Psoriasis,

did the same job for that. I am not sure if it does that for

tachycardia though (that was why the cardiologist wanted me on one

now)... I sure didn't want to worsen my asthma right now in the

middle of having had a pneumonia for a year and trouble with not

getting enough oxygen causing the tachycardia to get worse. My heart

was beating so hard... It is better now though, it is not as fast as

it was and it doesn't beat so terribly hard all the time, which is

wonderful, it is so annoying...
