I have the same problem with Liberty. They keep on calling. I just

hang up on them. I felt high pressured when they first call me when

I was asking for information about an month ago. The glucometer

they send me was not as good as my Breeze, according to several

reviews I read on the 'net. I send the package back unopened. I felt

exploited by them.

Last Monday, I had my first follow up since I was diagnosed with type

two diabetes. My average since the first of March was 124 and my

two week average was 119. I am on a 1800 calories diet and lost 10

pounds in 4 weeks. I am still experimenting with what to eat and what

not to eat. I can only live day to day and do the best I can.

This is a great group.

wow...if liberty calls as much as they advertise on

tv...they must be an irritation...

did you pick liberty because you have difficulty

getting to a druggist???

i'm lucky...my grocery store has a pharmacy...always

service with a smile. i call into their automated

refill service and the prescription is ready the next

day. when the refills run out, they call my doc for a

renewal.

thanks for the info...

My doctor gave me a prescription for a visual impaired glucometer and

none was to be found here in Louisville, KY. I was asking Liberty if they

had one. That is when they started being a pest.

In talking to a local lady, the cost of the glucometer was $561. I found an

Ascensia Breeze glucometer on the 'net for $19, suggested price was $39.

Rite Aid has it for $59.

Found a place on the 'net to get my test strips (autodisc) and lancet for

about half the suggested retail price. Now, being prescribed, even way

less. :-)

Ken, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of visual impairment do you have? I

have retinitis pigmentosa with cone/rod dystrophy. I'm just curious. Lois

My husband has been using Liberty for some years and I just started. They

do call and send advertising now and again but with all the junk mail we get

I don't think they send too much at all. My phone interactions with them

getting started (I'm newly dxed) have been very helpful, respectful and

friendly. Maybe I just lucked out with the reps I got??? Anyway, I like

the convenience of having things mailed to me n case I get sick or run out

or whatever. lazy? no - sick :-(

With any company as soon as they have your address and phone number,

they are legally allowed to call or mail you whatever they want. To

stop this, contact the company either by phone or thru their website

and tell them you want them to take you off their mailing list, " do

not sell, rent, give, or share my info, name, address, phone number,

or email address with other 3rd parties or company affiliates " . They

use different terms so I would cover it all. Some of them are sneaky

in that if you don't say a particular word they. Once you have given

any company your name, address, or phone they are free to pass it on.

I just got done writing about 50 companies. It gets out of hand

quickly. Website privacy policies are different than their regular

policies in most cases.

I was born with having extreme bilateral nearsightedness and profound

bilateral deafness in the high tones range. I have several cataracts in

both eyes now and was just recommended to have laser beams to break up

the cataracts in both eyes. I don't have diabetic retinapathy. They

could not see inside the right eye at all. They claimed to improve my

left eye vision from 20/200 plus to 20/60. Success rate is 99 percent.

A little scared as I have been told for 30 years, no surgery. Too risky.

Retinitis pigmentosa has nothing to do with diabetes. It's where you have night

blindness and lose your periphical (sp?) vision and slowly go blind. I'm having

a harder and harder time reading my monitor and hitting the insulin bottle

without dulling the needle. My husband will soon have to learn how to do all of

this stuff even tho' I know he doesn't want to. I hope the time comes later than

sooner. Lois

My sister uses Libery and says she likes it. But my neighbor used Liberty before

she had a stroke and wound up in a nursing ( she passer away last year) had

trouble with them. She said she had to call them all the time to get them to

deliver her supp;ies. Are all of you using Liberty on Medicare because every

thing they have sent me says you have to be on Medicare? I have a few years to

go for that. Lois

My insurance will only pay if I do mail order. I ended up with

Certified Diabetes Supplies, one of the suppliers recommended by my

insurance. So far, so good.

I don't have Medicare until the first of May, having been on Social

Security disability for two years then due to being declared legally

blind. I will be 63 in the middle of June.

I have Blue Cross coverage from my federal retirement plan. Liberty

told me that they would accept Blue Cross but they did not provide a

proper glucometer as required by my physician. I am refusing to do

business with them. I get the impression from Liberty that if you have

Medicare, the sky the limit.

My mom has RP. also. She got the screen that attaches to the coputer, also the

screen that attaches to the TV and also the talking watch, etc. The State had

a Low Vision program, no income involved, and she got all kinds of things to

help as her vision decreased. I will try to find the site that I have that

lists a lot of the stuff.

I have gotten some stuff from my state " s(Minnesota) Institute for the Blind. In

fact I just got a new pair of sun glasses, the orange kkind, and two new

magnifiers, one for my purse and one for reading at home. He had one to wear on

your head so you could do crafts but that didn't work for me. I don't need

anything for the computer or tv yet. My biggest problem with th tv is seeing the

whole screen so I miss alot because I see suck a small portion of it and then

these programs that are so dark. It looks like a dark screen with a little

movement in it once in awhile. I mostly just listen. How advanced is your mom's

rp? I can't drive any more so this site and the rp site are keeping me half way

sane. I don't get out much and we live in the country, no close neighbors. Thank

you. Lois

Not only what said, but keep in mind: each time you purchase

something from them you have established a new relationship, and they are

free to call you again.

So even if you get off of Liberty's list, the minute you place another

order, you are back on the 'call' list again. (Unless of course they have

other policies).

It was a Liberty Optium BG Meter. I read several reviews of it on the

'net when I found out what it was after I returned the package back to

them. There was no comparison between my Breeze meter and the Optium.

I was insulted.

The hardest part is learning to stick myself with the lancet. As a

small boy, I was terrified of needles and fought to save my life. :-)

It take me several seconds--long second--to push the button to prick

myself. Ouch!

The next worse part is trying to figure out what, when to eat and how

much to eat.

I didn't pick them. My Doctor did. They ordered the

monitor that I needed for one handed testing and the

supplies to go with it. I still get the strips from

Liberty because my regular pharmacy was having a

problem transferring the script. The cost is the same

to me whereever it comes from, so I just do whats

easier.
