Hey everyone~ I know this has probably been addressed, but is there

anything you can do to help prevent the helmet and baby's head from

smelling like old sweat socks? I took Owen's helmet off today and

because it has been warm here the last few days, and because he is a

big sweater to start with, his head and helmet reeked! Any suggestions

for my stinky head boy? :)

thanks~

Jen,

Try scrubbing the band with a soft bristle tooth brush with the

alcohol and was Owen's head with L'Oreal kids brand shampoo. I have

head that really gets rid of the smell. Also try letting it dry

outside in the sun.

Yes, completely normal. As far as length of time that it stinks, it

just depends on your little one. Maybe use the 91% alcohol instead of

the 70% (if you haven't already). Also, maybe try a scented shampoo.

I love the Lavendar and Soothing Naturals smell (both by J & J).

I love the Ken doll imagery! I think I would almost prefer a plastic

smell over a stinky feet smell, which is how my son's helmet smells!

But his head smells pretty good even at the end of the day. We have

been using Suave shampoo for kids in Blueberry. It's really strong

smelling but still sensitive to skin and eyes. I can smell it on him

all day long, so maybe give that a try. Does he have hair? If he's

bald, that might be why you can smell plastic more? But I'm not sure.

Good luck!

My daughters helmet has been so bad on days that I started to call it the Smell-met. Makes her smile and my fiance and I get a good laugh out of it. :) The strong shampoos do work pretty well and the 91% alcohol helps to neutralize the odors.

Much Luck!

OH the stinky head!!!! :-P

try washing his head with the yummy smelling shampoos from suave or loreal. Also, make sure you are using the 91% alcohol and try drying it in the sun. After dry sprinkle a bit of J & J powder in it and rub that around. I used freshness release. I thought it helped alot.

But the BEst cure for the stink.... Graduation!!! :-D

Hahaha! Well I can tell you that at least a Ken doll smells better

than sour vinegar which is what my boys helmets smelled like until I

got a good cleaning regimen...The smell definately subsides after the

first month when their heads get accustomed to the constant

wear...but don't be afraid to really scrub the inside and even use

your nail inside a wash cloth to scrape downward...you won't damage

the material...and use a lot of alcohol...i would literally pour it

in there and use a toothbrush to get it in the pourous suface real

well...then i would scrub it with a wash cloth afterwards...I have

twins, so this took about half an hour each night, but was well worth

it when they didn't smell like a locker room every time i took the

helmets off...good luck, it gets better
