The biggest thing (aside from when baby HAS to HAVE IT to fall

asleep) is tooth decay. The formulas, breast milk and juice all

have sugars in them. If baby is allowed to suck here and there

during the night, the sugar is sitting in his mouth all night long

causing tooth decay. If there has to be a bottle, make it water for

use in the bed.

My nephew who is now three used a bottle all night and then a sippy

cup when older filled with milk or juice. His teeth are

HORRIBLE!!!! At his last visit, they recommended putting him under

for the dental work because there was so much work to do. They

estimated at least $3000 at this point. And, the baby teeth CAN

affect the permanent teeth because they are sitting just above

them. If possible, don't let the baby have a bottle all night

unless it is water.

In my opinion, the babies aren't necessarily hungry either. They

are just used to the sucking for comfort. A little bit of crying

isn't a bad thing. But, don't send mixed messages by giving in

sometimes and not others. If you don't want to allow the crying,

then just allow a bottle of water during the night.

That's my two cents worth!
