Guest guest
Learned helplessness is a big key to all this mess, isn't it. It sure seems to me that I need a lot more than I did when I got to NA 12 or so years ago- Now I need the life that they convinced me to give up, plus deprogramming, plus " healing " (???) for all the " issues " (most b.s., some major real), and " work " (?!) on my " self-esteem " (F-you if I ever hear that expression again!Aaaargh!) now that it's been determined by " them " (?) that I'm a loser or problmatic " member " (Yeah, right) of " society " (another laughable concept). Guest guest
Hey Kim, Ever notice how program people start going to more and more programs? They start with AA. Then they want to quit smoking so they have to go to smokers anonymous. And then they are having problems with their family so they have to go to Alanon. And then they stuffing their resetntments with food so they gotta march over to OA. That was one thing that started freaking me out. It seemed that the more you did the program the less able you were to handle freaking ANYTHING. Take Care, kiki > > Learned helplessness is a big key to all this mess, > isn't it. I was really wet-behind-the- ears about these programs so I was shocked when I saw these AA/NAers in SA. One woman actually forgot which program she was at when it was her turn to share. She was confused as to identify as an addict, alcoholic, or smoker. And to think that I willingly got involved with Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous the following year after I moved to Florida. Even in Smoker's Anonymous, there were those " doom & gloom " stories of what happens if a person does not work the " program " . Looking back, I guess my indoctrination started in SA. I had really forgotten about all of that until I read your post since I did not stay in that fellowship for too long. http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/aaornatwelvestepcults

In the Marin County Smokers' Anonymous, I had heard the term " smoke- briety " ! I still shake my head thinking how I got wrapped up in AA and NA even after leaving SA due to the lunatics in that group. http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/aaornatwelvestepcults
