Guest guest
how does one start the process of getting a wheelchair? it seems like a dumb question, i know, but i'm just realizing, after having both knees throbbing painfully off & on for over a year that it may be time to be starting the search. i have really good insurance. i just don't know where to begin. is there a wheelchair store? what about the idea of going to our " visiting nurse's loan closet " and borrow just a regular chair for awhile to see how that goes? i have TOS in my L shoulder, which doesn't bother me much, but i must have it in my R one, too, or something else, cuz i have a hard time sleeping directly on my R shoulder. also, my hands are very weak & i know they'd get tired of pushing myself, but i could make sure to always have someone w/me when using it. what do you think? i can take back the crutches i'm done with & get a wheelchair! after yesterday's ER visit, cuz both knees were so painful for so long, i had to do something to break the cycle. the demerol & viserol (?) injection worked just fine. for last night and most of today (i was a tv napper today). i know as soon as i start back doing errands, etc, i'll get bad again. asked dr for some muscle relaxers since my pain meds aren't touching this knee pain. i had the arthro done 12/17 but it feels like yesteray. the pain has gotten worse rather than better. of course they don't give you any guarantees & i knew that going in. it'll be several more months, i'm sure, til we know if it actually worked or not. if it did, then we consider doing the L one. ugh. it's one thing after another & another & another w/us EDSers, huh? Every Day is Special & we must remember that. we may feel like doggy doo, but there's someone in the hospital who may be near death's door. we must be grateful to God for giving us another chance each & every day to be a better & more positive person. i know i can sure learn some lessons in that dept!! i dare everyone to do it tomorrow. be more positive. try not to make that catty comment that's on the tip of your tongue. smile up at God & let Him know you're trying harder for Him!! love & anjil hugs to all my CEDAngel friends, jil () : )

Your primary Dr. or PT are two main ways. A Dr has to order it, but it's best if the Chair Co. does the fitting and the PT decides which pieces would best suit your needs. In my sons case, The chair Company came to the PT and together they decided on the right chair and pieces to go on it. Then the Dr wrote a script for it. The PT wrote a letter as to why the chair was needed, and the Dr signed that letter. Then all is sent into the insurance and we wait, and wait, and wait. If you need a costum made chair like Dylan, it takes about 6 months to get it. Cindy C.
