HI everyone!

I have been lurking for a while and needed some advice and it seems

like you guys will do a great job! :)

I am scheduled to have surgery on Dec. 5th. It was going to be in

early October but we found out through my lab work that I had severe

anemia due to heavy periods. We found the solution to the periods

and I have been on iron since and I'm probably only another week or

2 away from having my blood be where it should be. I have been

DREAMING for my bypass surgery and am very anxious to get it done

and am thinking of changing my date to mid November BUT aside from

Thanksgiving being around the corner then having a copule of

girlfiends come for a visit in late November (and they will want to

go out and eat!) do you think I should be patient and wait? until

after? Here's my concern - I'm scared that I will have had the

surgery and I won't be able to eat ANYTHING but will get frustrated

and want to eat but can't. I want to know if in your experience I

will just NOT be hungry and therefore won't be craving to eat along

with everyone else. I just need some real life advice.

THanks!

My limited experience is you won't be hungry. I know that sounds

weird but it's true. You probably won't or can't eat much at that

point either. You may not even be able to go out depending on your

fatigue from surgery.

You might still have some difficulties with going out with friends

though. At least for me there's more to the over eating with friends

than just being hungry or needing food. Maybe it's just with guys but

getting a togo box or not eating while all the others are seems

wimpy. I've gotten over that though and often will sit and drink

water. Surprisingly I don't get a lot of grief from anyone about

this. I can sort of sense, sometimes, that the wait staff is a bit

concerned tip-wise when they're running around refilling me and I'm

not going to pay them anything. I always tip a couple bucks though so

they brighten up at the end.

I guess if you have a date set the idea of trying to mess with it to

get it in only a few weeks earlier sounds very disruptive to you,

your family/friends/support and your surgeon. I'm surprised they'd

let you do that frankly.

Good luck with whatever decision(s) you make!

Josie,

I would say if your just a week or two out of surgery to not put

yourself in that kind of situation. Your most likely not going to want to

eat anything but we have heard stories of folks eating way to early and they

hurt their pouch........

Welcome! You are in the right place for information and advice. I was

not hungry for the first 2 or 3 weeks, then I thought I was hungry but

really wasn't for another week or so. At about 5 weeks out I started

being able to differ from stomach hunger and head hunger. I think you

should discuss it with your doctor and see what his/her opinion is.

Good Luck!
