Guest guest
#1. About 1/2 hour after each mean I break out in a sweat, all over but most especially my head and neck. Why? Could this be diabetes related? #2 I was recently told by an internest that I should increase the amout of protein I eat due to the fact that i have beginning stages of liver disease, but rather practice " linking " them with appropriate high carb foods. Now, My PCP says to significantly decrease protein, especially the kind of protein he wants em to eat i.e. chicken, turkey fish, soy, all veggies. I don't know what to do. I continue to take the medication and my labs are due to be in 2 weeks. So does anyone have any ideas or suggeestions for me. --------------------------------------------------------------------- First of all , are you testing frequently? It is very important now as your body reacts to the surgery. Your bgs should have already begun to come down, per what I have read from other people. You absolutely must be testing before meals, plus one and two hours after meals and when you feel " funny " , such as half an hour after eating. I will ask a friend with liver disease about what foods you should be eating; however, as far as I know, she tends to stick with low fat protein and low glycemic veggies. I will get back to you after I hear from her. Before we can get into any more suggestions, we need to know your meter readings, when you take your meds, how much, and do you do any exercise. Guest guest
Hi Eliabeth. As I understand it, digestion is really hard work for the body, hence the evidence of the hard work - sweating. Some diabetics are unable to sweat below the waist, or even below the neck due to diabetic neuropathy. The cure for that is getting bgs down over a long enough period of time to at least partially reverse the process. After three years I notice that exercise finally makes me sweat in a few places lower than my face and head. My suggestion is to stay away from those high carb foods, no matter what. High carb = high bg = more problems than most of us on this list want to deal with. CarolR elizabethrude wrote: > Hi, my name is Rude. Guest guest
Hi there everyone- I am new here (I have been lurking and gathering info)and just starting my journey to WLS. My name is , I am 34 and have been heavy all my life. Thankfully I don't have significant co-morbidities and I am still in the process of deciding if I am ready for this. I feel like this might be my only option. I have lost weight before but it always comes back on over time. I have a couple questions...... How did you all decide on the bypass versus the Lap band ect?.....Has anyone been pregnant after the surgery and did you have any problems?.....What are the drawbacks and adverse effects that I should think about before hand?.....Would anyone do it differently? Thanks for any input and good luck to everyone.

I am 35 and also in the beginning stages of the whole process. My insurance covers RNY, so I am trying to soak up all the information I can regarding it. I find I am scared to death! But I have 3 kids and want to be here for them. I have also always been overweight and have lost as much as 70 lbs at a time (when I was 20....much easier than now) only to gain it back and then some. I, like you, don't have other medical problems....YET. I would like to have this weight thing taken care of before I do. I have to have 6 months of a medically supervised weight loss program. I will start Weight Watchers this week. I find that I am somewhat threatening myself... " Okay, body, if this dieting thing doesn't work ONCE AGAIN, then I am going for surgery! " I am also afraid I will lose enough to forget about surgery, only to struggle with keeping weight off for the rest of my life. My husband's cousin had some sort of band put on her stomach years ago and lost over 100 lbs. The band broke and she regained all of her weight. She is going to have RNY soon. It must not be too bad, or she wouldn't endure WLS again. She said she wanted LapBand, but her ins. doesn't cover it. I will be watching to see how people respond to your questions because I have them myself. Its a huge decision and we are right to take it very seriously and listen to all the positives and negatives. Good luck, Mandy

Guest guest
Hi , I am . I had WLS 7/19/06 How did you all decide on the bypass versus the Lap band - My doctor really prefers the rny over lap for medical and personal reasons. I was unsure of which one I wanted but after hearing his reasoning, I agreed that the rny was my best option Has anyone been pregnant after the surgery and did you have any problems? no pregnancy here but my doctor says it is fine after 18 months What are the drawbacks and adverse effects that I should think about before hand? there are always risks to consider when having surgery, I have had no problems or drawbacks at all, remember that this is a tool and you will have to retrain your mind and body to the new way of life you will be living- otherwise it will not work Would anyone do it differently? NO WAY!!!!

Guest guest
Welcome to the group!!! Great to have you. This group is a wonderful informational too. I decided on the bypass vs the lapband because I didn't want to have to deal w/ the fills that you have to have w/ the band. I also wanted to have a little bit more restriction in what I can and can't eat. Lapband you can eat whatever you want in limited quantities; but because of the redoing of the intestines w/ the bypass it does cause you to dump on sweets & fats most of the time. I don't dump w/ sweets; but do w/ fatty foods. I work w/ a lady that is about a year post op & is now pregnant. She's doing great! A lot of women have been able to get pregnant after surgery that couldn't get pregnant before! :-) But I think it's recommended you wait 12-18 months. Drawbacks...my only drawback is not eating certain foods that I loved before hand. But, I'm losing weight. " Nothing tastes as good as thin feels. " It's a small price to pay in my opinion. And I'd have the surgery again in a heartbeat! W 380/278/160 nrsmeme1 wrote: > Hi there everyone- > I am new here (I have been lurking and gathering info)and just > starting my journey to WLS. Guest guest
Welcome ! I didn't get the option of what I wanted. I was given the GBS,and am very happy with it.I don't think I would be happy with the band because I want too much too quick & even with the GBS I am still whining it's not quick enough for me.Just my opinion.I am done with kids, had a tubal,so no I won't be PG after surgery & can't help you with that.Good luck to you.
