Guest guest
My Son is 4 months old and we have noticed his plagio at 2 months & his ped said don't worry he'll grow out of it. Then I read all the plagio stuff that states they really don't & he'll need a helmut. His plagio is considered (Mild - Moderate) He was assessed and the Physical Thepaist said his ration's (CI & CVA) were in range for the helmut. Has anyone ever NOT gone with the helmut & their son is ok - & symetrical? My concern is not necessarily the flat spot but I don't want his ears off, eyes, off, etc. - the assemetry that happens as a result. I can't imagine my son having to wear that helmut 23 hours a day! But, if the plastic surgeon says he definately needs it, I will go ahead with it.
Guest guest
Hi! You are so lucky to be early in the process! Because its early, and I am not a doctor or a pro, I would see the specialist, and the helmet provider, and get your sons measurements done. Then I would try repositioning your son (look through past messages regarding repositioning, there is a good one in response to a question from Tamil Selvi). Do this as soon as possible! There are photos of kids who were repositioned instead of going with a helmet in the Photos file. If your son tends to stay still while sleeping, and you can get him in the right position, then you may be able to get the symmetry without the helmet. Then after 3 or 4 weeks, get the measurements done again, and you can see what change has occurred. Having said that, the band providers say the ideal time for banding is between 4 and 7 months. The band takes less effort on the parents part than repositioning. My 10 month old is in a Starband right now because my pediatrician kept putting me off and I did not have the information then that I have now. Once it gets late in the game, it is much harder to keep a baby in the same position and you have much less time to effect the desired change. So good luck with whatever decision you make! I have a scientific paper on repositioning vs. helmet that my neurosurgeon gave me. Email me at srwauters@... and I can scan it for you if you are interested. . > > My Son is 4 months old and we have noticed his plagio at 2 months & > his ped said don't worry he'll grow out of it. Guest guest
Hi Thanks for the info - this is such a hard decision for me. I do have his measurements & he has seen the PT who says he needs it. Then we took him to a Pediatric Neurologist who said he thinks it is mild & doesn't really see any asymmetry in the cheeks or ears but sees the slight bulging in the forehead & then said when he sees bulging, he refers to the plastic surgeon who we are seeing Thursday to see what he thinks. My Pediatrician said don't worry but all read is about ped saying that & parents being so mad they listened because it didn't resolve itself. I would love to see the article. Thanks --- srwauters <srwauters@...> wrote: > Hi! > > You are so lucky to be early in the process! > Because its early, and I am not a doctor or a > pro, I would see the specialist, and the helmet > provider, and get your sons measurements > done. Guest guest
Hello, My son gets casted on Monday and I was wondering if they told you about how long your son would be in his band? Did you know ahead of time it would take 3??? I thought the younger the child the better, but am I reading correctly that yours was now 6 months? I am worried because we do not have insurance and will be flying to Dallas for treatment and adjustments, 1 band is costly enough, 3 would be out of the question. Thanks, at jchaconas@... > > > > My Son is 4 months old and we have noticed his plagio at 2 months > & > > his ped said don't worry he'll grow out of it.
