Guest guest
Amey - We haven't heard back from you but I'm pretty sure that I told you that my last SCS was done this way also. They don't actually removed the "bumps" (spinous process) from your spine, but rather a small section of the vertebra that lies next to the "bumps" and then feed the paddle in to the epidural space that surrounds the spinal cord. Just to reassure you, I didn't find the surgery any more painful than the first regular SCS impant but the recovery did take about a week longer. I also managed to get away without a new battery being put in which was terrific. Wish you luck. BarbaraAmey wrote: HEY GUYS, I WENT TO THE DR'S ON THURSDAY THE 11TH AND HE HAD GREAT NEWS (FOR ONCE!) HE CAN FIX MY SCS!! "BUT" I AM HAVING THE NEW PADDLE PUT IN. ITS CALLED A "THORASIC LAMINOTOMY" ANYBODY HAV ONE DOEN B4??LET ME KNOW?? I NEED TO KNOW WAT HAPPENS AFTERWARDS?? I KNOW ITS GUNA BE THAT THEY SAW OFF THE BUMPS YOU FEEL ON YER SPINE "LAMIN" AND MAKE A 6INCH CUT AND SAW THRU TO BE ABLE TO SHOVE THE NEW WIDER LEAD "PADDLE" IN UP TO THRU MY SPINAL COLUMN AND FEED DA WIRES DOWN TO MY BUTT CHEEK TO THE BATTERY PACK. I "MAY" HAVE TO HAVE A NEW BATTERY PACK NOT SURE YET. I HOPE NOT THO... THAT WAS DA WORST PART Hi Amey, I had this done in August and have had excellent results. This is my 3rd SCS (other 2 removed due to complications) but the first one done this way. (Laminotomy). My doc explained that even though this way is more invasive it is actually better because the leads cannot move as easily. Good luck to you, write and let us know how you are doing. Take care, Love Jai
