Guest guest
Now that you mention it; the doc said " what do you take for pain in your thumb " and I thought " what???? " it was a confusing question. I didn¹t even know medication could work for the thumb pain; and they have had me on NASIDs for forever so I told him I was on that. It just seems that there are some 'pain' that would not be eleviated (sp) by a medication - ecspecially if there is underlying arthritic changes in the bone. Or am I mistaken about that as well? ------------------------- Where in the thumb does it hurt? Back at the wrist joint? The joint at the base of the thumb? The thumb knuckle? The entire thumb? There is no theoretical reason why the meds you are on wouldn't work for the thumb pain as well since NSAIDS are commonly prescribed for arthritic pain in general. The reason I am asking about pain location is that the pain could be from arthritic changes in one of the joints or from inflammation in one or more of the thumb extensor/flexor tendons. Barb and I both get thumb pain flare-ups from time to time whenever we spend more than the usual amount of time at the PC. If the pain is in one of the joints, I usually use either that Polarity X technique on the painful joint or " two-point " the bone between the joints by touching the two joints. It sometimes takes 3- 5 minutes, but I have always been able to make the pain go away so far. I like these techniques in this case because they not only address the basic pain but also help if one of the joints is partially subluxed. I have also had a couple of times when I stressed the thumb tendons so it was hurting from the wrist all the way down the thumb. I didn't know how to do Polarity at that time so instead used a wrist/thumb brace/splint that Barb got me from where she works. It is like a sleeve for the thumb (with a stiff splint in it) combined with a wrist-wrap brace. I would wear it for 3-4 days until the flare-up subsided.
