Hey all!

I just recently joined this group last week bc i had upper

advancement and my underbite corrected a week ago. Ive already posted

some ques but i was thinkin that most of you guys dont know me and i

certainly dont know you guys. I was just curious to see how many ppl

my age have gotten this surgery done(well at least at this site) Im

18 yrs old and a senior in highschool. I was wonderin if there are

any other ppl in this group around my age or my age. It would be

interesting to know bc we would be at the same stage in life goin

thru the same situation. Its funny to me to think that ive known that

i needed this surgery pretty much my whole life and i never knew that

is was so common and that so many ppl get it done. A month ago i

didnt know half as much as i know now...ive def been researching. Im

glad to know that im not like one in a million that has this done. I

guess u can see that ive learned alot! Well im glad that i found this

site bc i enjoy reading about other's experiences and knowing that im

NOT the only one. Anyways id love to hear back from some ppl my

age...maybe hear your story or share some thoughts. Thanx! ~~~~

Hi !

I am 17 and a freshman in college. I had my surgery on June 23rd...so that's 6

weeks and 1 day ago. I am sorta like you. Because i knew that i would have

this surgery for almost ever..and i didnt know that so many people got it done.

Honestly, i thought that only people with cleft lip and palate (which is what i

was born with) got it done...lol, how naive of me!

Anyways, my doctor gave me the OKAY to start to try and chew at around 4.5

weeks, and now, he game me the OKAY to chew any food as long as it isnt too hard

or crunchy....so pretzels and chips are still out of the question for me. But i

am doing great.

There are acutally quite a few people our age (or around it)...they just arent

as active any more because their recovery is going so smoothy. The only reason

why i am still on here is because i still get the email everytime somebody

posts, and i have a lot of free time :D.

In all actuality, at first i was disappointed, it wasnt as drastic of a change

as i had hoped...but after the first 2 weeks i got used to it and I am acutally

liking it now. The only thing that hasnt gone smoothly is the zits and stuff.

I am now on a prescription medicated wipe thing for the acne problem. My doctor

(as well as many people on the board) contribute my acne to the steroids and

antibiotic that i was on after the surgery.

I'm really excited to go to school. I am going to Shippensburg University (it's

in PA). This is my first year, so i don't know anybody that knows what i looked

like before the surgery...but yes, i am still very excited to be going back with

a new look. I feel more self-confident as well...the weight that i lost also

helped boost my self-esteem a little bit. All of my high school friends say

that i look so much different, but i don't really see it. Maybe they are trying

to be nice, hehe. Anyways, ..i am from MD, and Ship isnt too far away and it

isnt too close either. About a 2 hour drive...which is better than a 6 hour

drive like my dad has to make to drive my sister to school (she goes to Syracuse

University in NY).

Everything is going great on my end...how are you feeling? and how is the

swelling? I hope both answers are positive ones!

Hey Kendall!

Im glad to hear that there is someone my age! Im also glad to hear

that your doc let u try and chew at 4.5 weeks bc my doc said the same

but i didnt know if most ppl could chew at that point. Im about 2

weeks like i said so ive been setting my hopes on that 4 week mark! I

was wondering if you are happy with your results and all and if

things have been smooth for you. ARe u excited about goin back to

school?? (especially with your new look?) What college do you attend

(you dont have to tell me if u dont want to) I just have a sister who

is also a freshman in collge ..well shes gonna be a sophmore. She

goes to Virginia Tech...we are from VA. Well its nice to hear

back...hope things are well with u! ~~~~
