Guest guest
When I was out of control, I felt sick all the time & didn't even want chocolate any more. Now I'm on a better level, feel good & think more about having a treat. I've found that having a couple of squares of good chocolate as a bedtime snack doesn't raise my AM readings (of course I don't wake up to check after 2 hours!) & makes me fall asleep right away... Guest guest
One of the Morning news segments this morning... Today or GMA or FOX I don't remember which... spoke on the issue of High Quality Chocolate/ Cocoa consumption and a study of men over a 15 yr period. (not diabetes related....but still of interest) The study was out of Holland and showed benefits of Moderate to High Consumption of chocolate/ Cocoa. Of course thats not talking Bon bons with the fillings... the flip side of course is that taking the FATS and SUGARS into account... can be a negative.... but the overall view seems to support our sweet tooth. Just thought I would pass it on for a grin or such... Tina Krause wrote: I love Chocolate... The real kind actually spikes me less even. Now, I'm headed to the kitchen to get my chocolate. LOL hugs Eunice

Guest guest
Though the news and media are focused on the flavanoids provided by chocolate, they fail to mention the hi magnesium content.....which is surely also playing a role here. You might want to do a search on magnesium and chocolate......chocolate is considered to be one of the highest sources of magnesium in food. (some say THE highest source, depending on what kind of chocolate) and many doctors suggest that if you have chocolate cravings, you should consider magnesium deficiency. Both the cravings (and also sypmtoms of PMS), decrease when magnesium levels are raised in a deficient body. The food industry is trying maximize on the recent studies done, but the added fats and calories might negate the benefits if too much chocolate is eaten......especially if added to foods like chocolate milk etc. Here's an example of what is being found in relation to magnesium: Ability of a cocoa product to correct chronic Mg deficiency in rats. In animal fed the cocoa-supplemented diet (D + CC) significant improvements were found between days 35 and 56 in the alterations in Mg, Ca and P caused by Mg deficiency in all tissues studied. On day 56, kidney and bone concentrations of Mg and Ca had returned to normal. Our findings show that the habitual use of the cocoa product as a dietary supplement favors correction of the negative effects of long-term feeding with a diet moderately deficient in Mg. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve & db=pubmed & dopt=Abstra\ ct & list_uids=10052022 & query_hl=1 & itool=pubmed_docsum French RN, LPHA cfrench180@...
