Cindy, I agree with this statement! We'd be crazy not to heed our

docs advise to remain moderate on sugars. At least most DS surgeons

that I know do give that advice. The idea of living wisely and

moderately is smart for everyone.

What I don't like to see, however, is people who put forth

unsubstantiated statements that fly in the face of the peer-reviewed

published data. There are many long-term studies on the BPD/DS and

it's precursor, the Scopinaro BPD. Scopinaro's study is unparalleled

in its thoroughness and rate of follow-up. The Canadian DS surgeon,

Picard Marceau, has studied the DS enhancement extensively and has

reported compelling evidence that the DS not only eliminates known

problems with the unenhanced BPD, but it actually improves the

results.

The clinical data is extensive, and I think its wise to refer people

to THAT type on information when they are researching procedures.

Studied long-term results are more meaningful than second-hand

anecdotal reports (such as from Felicia who has made many misguided

and incorrect statements about this procedure, and puts them forth as

if they are incontrovertible.)

I just want to see people given reliable information. Of course any

of us would be foolish to live our post-op lives without caution and

moderation. But let's leave the unsubstantiated scare tactics to the

anti-WLS zealots, shall we?

M.
