Hi Patti, I did not like spending money on meds that I could do something about, so I started losing weight by exercising more. Once I started losing weight, food was not that important. I've been off meds since Feb 2001 and I've been at my weight goal since 2001. I love the " skinny " me. I eat a small piece of dark chocolate almost every day. I eat SF pudding, SF jello with cool whip, low-carb yogurt with cocoa and a spoonful of Splenda in it. There are recipes for cheese cake using Splenda. Some people can eat low carb ice cream. In fact, some people can eat a small amount of regular ice cream. You don't have to give up sweets, just use your imagination and you can come up with lots of ideas. hugs Eunice

Guest guest
Judith (and group) I probably have the word eating disorder... hand-to-mouth disease! If I can get it in my hand, I will get it to my mouths. Honestly, I am a compulsive overeater. Food is my best friend... always there, never lets me down (especially when I get on a scale!) and I can always trust that the Hostess cupcakes will be delicious. How have others dealt with changing their eating habits? I am trying to change, make healthy food choices and log what I eat and when. Guest guest
Do you see a therapist? Eating disorders usually are a symptom of something else. Therapy hasn't really helped me, (without going into gory details) but it does help some. -sunny --- American Woman wrote: > Judith (and group) > > I probably have the word eating disorder... > hand-to-mouth disease! Guest guest
Patti, I have the same problem as I mentioned. I went to Overeaters Anonymous for years (years ago) and did not diet but followed their program. There were diabetics and people with other medical issues they could not resolve by letting go of foods they should not have been eating. I lost something like 60+ lbs in about 60 months WITHOUT dieting, but just by letting go of the foods my body didn't need. that being said, there is no real OA program where I am living - I have no idea if that is nationwide now or not - so I have to rely on what I learned years ago by myself. (there is OA on line if that is of help to you - just google for it). NOW I added the dietician's Strawberry Delight dessert and the Hunts gelitan (like jello) with Cool Whip Lite to my breakfast!!! the Strawberry delight is way too sweet even for me so I only ate 1/2 the serving. After about 3 or 4 days, today YIPPEE I felt no need to eat a dessert after breakfast. Go figure! I am happy and will take it as it comes and hope it lasts FOREVER... As much as this diabetes thing is important I MUST loose weight so this eating disorder has become priority for both medical issues. that is how it seems to be working for me. i couldn't do dessert after every meal with regular desserts. maybe this diabetes scare is a good thing for me! We'll see. today's wake up sugar count was 80. I had 2 eggs, 3 slices of turkey ham, one slice of rice bread my husband makes for me, 1/2 tablespoon ghee, and 1/2 tablespoon low carb low cal preserves. NO DESSERT and I feel satisfied. Ok, took 3+ wks to get here but I'm here and hoping to stay. I'll see what my blood sugar is in 2 hrs. I'm testing more again no matter what the dr says and hope I can get the number of strips and lancets I need if I run out of them. I have to know what I can and can't eat and then how to manage the food not to trigger the eating disorder. Fun for the feeble minded JUDITH == Re: eating habits > Judith (and group) > > I probably have the word eating disorder... hand-to-mouth disease!
