Guest guest
I wrote several weeks ago but didn't get much response. To those of you who have had abdominoplasties and your insurance covered it, please write and tell me about it. I have a large hernie above my stomach which has to be removed. I was in the hospital with pneumonia when the doctor found it and said it needs to be removed. He feels that the abdominoplasty will be covered when the doctors involved see how fast the hernia is growing and where it comes from?? My wgt. loss dr. said that he has never had an abdominoplasty that's been covered, but he has never seen the hernia. I can't decide whether to go with my WLD and the plastic surgeon he uses first or go to see the doctors my hospital physician recomments. Any/all information and suggestions would be wonderful. - 8/19/00--300 lbs 12/30/01 -- 152 lbs. (5'4 " )
Guest guest
Hi , I've had 2 abdominoplasties since August. Both were covered by Aetna. In August I had what my surgeon called a truncoplasty (similar to a lower body lift). I developed a ventral hernia in the hospital as a result of constipation!! Yup, you hear right! The morphine blocked the heck outta me, and I tried so hard to go that I burst several internal stitches resulting in a lovely hernia. I just had the hernia repair 12/7 and my doctor " tweaked " my upper tummy at the same time, remove more excess skin and retightening my muscles while he was there. This surgery was done as day surgery and I had no problems with approval for that. Aetna has certain criteria for abdominoplasty and I have it posted on my site. Just go to www.mygastricbypass.com and click on the link for reconstructive surgery. I also have all my letters there too and (gulp) before and after pictures (which I do need to update!) Did I mention that since August I have lost 10 inches from my waist and 7 from my hips. Isn't that amazing??! Sue Open RNY 10/26/98 From 500 lbs to 164! Guest guest
I would " think " that you would have better luck getting covered by going to the weight loss doctor to have it done, except that yours said he's " never had one covered " has me stumped. It should be easier for him to write a proper insurance letter than someone who doesn't really know WLS, like some plastic surgeons. As for the hernia, it should help you get the abdominoplasty approved. Maybe if you post where you are from, someone who has had the abdominoplasty in that area can post the name of their doctor. Just a suggestion.
