Guest guest
Hi Todd & welcome! DO NOT be a slave to the scale, please. After a year on this list, I've finally got it thru my rather thick skull that it is inches that are important, not weight. Weight fluctuates hourly, even by the minute. I would suggest that you take your measurements today. Chest, waist & hip. . .. then forget the scale, and take your measurements again in a week. You'll be surprised. . . I promise. If you would like, you can post your daily menu here & everyone will look at it & see if there is anything you could do differently. Last but not least, drink your water-------lots of water. . . . . . please don't get discouraged. If you give this way of eating 2 weeks, you will see results & improvement in your sense of well-being, too. Amy

Guest guest
Hello List! I am on day 3 of Atkins, and, in reality, I haven't lost at all. Im fact, I have GAINED a smidge. All of my family is losing on it but me - for example: my wife has aready lost 4 lbs, and my son has lost at least 8. Is this normal for some, or are there those for whom this diet just doesn't work? Please advise. - Todd

Guest guest
Hi Todd, When my husband, myself and my teenage daughter went on this diet a couple of years ago.....it was very interesting. My husband normally looses weight....just by cutting back.....just by not snacking in the night...etc. On this diet...my teen lost the 15 lbs she needed so fast that it made her sick. She had to quick the diet and kept her weight off all summer as she was very active....chasing her pig around the yard for 4-H. I did well on the diet.....went into ketosis....but got so sick. I finally " had a clue " and took a pregnancy test. I was pregnant with our 5th. My Dr. told me I probably couldn't get pregnant anymore....because of my hormone problems. This diet makes me healthy in that way. At the same time.....my husband could barely get into Ketosis. I don't know WHAT his problem was. Since my daughter and I both quit the diet....he did too. Later...after my baby.....I lost the 57 lbs. He didn't bother trying again. And NO.....he did not cheat. He is not the cheating type. It never made sense to me that he.....who can loose so easily in other ways....could not loose this way. Now that I know more...I might try to change a few things for him. But....he really didn't even eat hardly any salad. It was weird. One thing I found very interesting later was the " blood type connection " . I really am not into the " evolution " stuff in the Blood Type Diet....BUT....I do agree with allot of it...especially the fact that years ago different peoples at differently. The put people into groups having to do with blood type. There vegetarian types....they were the peoples who ate that way. Then you have the hunters. Well......what blew me away is that the diet side that I being blood type O....needed meats. I had already learned that this was for me. There were things in the diet that I didn't think I should have....a few whole grains and some cheese. These things were sparing I think. Anyway......I looked up my husbands type and he was supposed to eat veggys mostly. Wouldn't you guess that he HATES veggys. :-) After this I put him on a diet of mostly legumes, veggys, a bit of meat, cut out sugars and he did loose weight. Are you suprised to know that I REALLY don't like meat. This is one reason the diet is hard for me. Guest guest
Hi , My hubby DID loose weight when we were basically eatting whole grain bread, lots of legumes: beans, lentils peas, with a bit of meat, salad, fruit. He really does well if he cuts the fat out. Right now he isn't watching his weight and he is gaining. He'll get disgusted with himself (only needs to loose maybe 20) and then he'll just drop his midnight snack of cereal or p & j. He makes me sick how he can easily loose weight! I did read in the book "Understanding The Female Fat Cell" (or something like that) that women have twice as many fat storing cells and men have twice as many fat burning. Errrrrrrrrrrrr Sandie :0) Re: Does This Diet Cause Some People to GAIN Weight? Pilgrim wrote: I'd love to hear how many of you on this list are also blood type 0SandieSandie.... Guest guest
Todd, the first week (this time around) I didn't lose...the second I increased my water and did lose. Are you exercising (although during induction, if this is your first time, you shouldn't be just yet if you aren't used to it). Don't weigh every day...do it weekly or you will get discouraged. The scale is evil...how your clothes start getting loose is really the sign that you are losing. If you weigh every day you will get discouraged...give it two weeks and see how it goes.
