Low Carb Milk

Hi Judith,

I recommend that you try a low carb milk product. I find them very

effective (I love milk and drink/use it in cooking frequently). I had

eliminated milk except for tiny quantities on occasion and found I really

missed milk. The low carb milk products taste like regular milk to me and

have 1/5th of the carbs, so I drink it and cook with it faily freely. I

prefer Hood Carb Countdown, but I've used at least one other brand, and it

was also good. It is available in the regular varieties ... skim, 2%, full

fat. I love chocolate milk but don't care for the Carb Countdown version.

For me the low carb milk has made a significant difference in my quality of

life.

Best,

lin

Perhaps they just add water? I tried some once, and that was my general

impression. I use soy milk to make my protein drinks. Sue

If they just add water (diluted milk) It is fraud in my opinion, especially when

they charge more for the same size carton of milk

I don't think that is the answer because if they did that then the ratio of the

fat content would change also and the milk could not be sold with the percentage

displayed.

Hi Donna,

I did a Google search and found this: " This is real milk with most of the

lactose replaced by Splenda and acesulfame potassium (Ace-K). H.P. Hood Inc.

distributes it ultrapasturized. The company also distributes Carb Countdown

Homogenized, Fat Free, and 2% Reduced Fat Chocolate milk. The URL is

http://www.hphood.com/products/products.detail.asp?id=478 "

My choice of 2% is described at:

http://www.hphood.com/products/products.detail.asp?id=576

Nutrition label says serving size 1 cup, Carbs 3g.

Thanks for your input, Sue. This shows that, like so many things in

our diabetes universe, each person finds results different and you must come

to your own conclusions. I suggest that people should try it if they want

milk in their diet. For me Carb Countdown is a great blessing, and I find

for me it tastes just like the regular milk. I drink it and cook with it

with great success. Your results may vary.

My local grocery store discontinued it when they saw the Atkins company

fail, but I pursued it and finally talked to their corporate dairy buyer.

With enough outcry the product has been reinstated. When good products

disappear from your selves, don't just accept it. Let them know this is an

important product to you. I think for a lot of people they think " Atkins

diet " when they hear " Low carb " . We need to educate people that diabetics

must follow a low-carb diet for their lifetime, while dieters may come and

go. There is a permanent market for good low-carb products. I think the

dairy buyer I talked to didn't realize this was a valuable product for their

diabetic customers.

A lesson can also be learned from Hood's announcement that they have

discontinued some of their low-carb products due to lack of sales: " * Please

note: Our Carb Countdown Yogurts, Smoothies and Juice Beverages have been

discontinued due to a decrease in demand. We appreciate your support and

hope you will continue to enjoy our Carb Countdown Dairy Beverages. " We

need to support companies producing good quality low-carb products by

purchasing them. I loved the Schwan's low-carb chocolate ice cream, but

it's gone now due to lack of sales.
