Guest guest
I'm so glad that I found this group and that you all share your stories so generously. My ped referred me to Dr. Graham who doesn't have time to see us until the end of July/beginning of August, so he referred me directly to Lerman & Sons. Thanks because you may have helped me from suffering a similar experience to yours. Hopefully, this new path works- good luck!ennuigirl323 <mhack@...> wrote: I wanted to give you an update on our continuing helmet saga. Abrawas diagnosed with plagio at 5 mos and since we were at Cedars the pedrecommended us use Lehrman and Sons for a passive helmet. The helmetwas a real problem from the start. She developed a couple of bad hotspots and we couldn't use the helmet for a week. Then the ped, whoalso felt uncomfortable about the fit of the helmet, sent us to aspecialist, Dr. Graham. Dr. Grahman, who is probably an excellentresearch doctor, has the bedside manner of a mortician. He manhandledour dd so badly that I was actually concerned for her safety. He tookmeasurements that did not even come close to matching the measurementsbeing taken by Lehrman. Further, he saw that the helmet was notfitting correctly and asked Lehrman to give us a new one – free ofcharge. I feel we lost valuable correction time due to the illfitting helmet. At 6½ months she got a new helmet which once again had fit problems. She developed foul oozing sores from it and once again it had to beremoved. The ped prescribed an antibacterial ointment ($75!!) and itseemed to resolve the problem but we still went into Lehrman at least5 times because of lining and fit issues. The final straw is when Inoticed that Abra was developing asymmetry in her face. All of asudden my beautiful little girl was getting a crooked face. THAT DIDIT! Fortunately in Los Angeles there is another specialist, a pedneurologist, Dr. Krieger at Children's Hospital. We saw himyesterday and what a difference - Great communication skills andbedside manner. He told us that he couldn't recommend the Lehrmanhelmet because he feels that it doesn't correct the problem. Even ifa parent requests it, he will not write a prescription for it. Hehighly recommended the DOC band and we are going in today for a fitting. I really really hope that the DOC band is as good as he says becausewe are at our wits end. Further, she is now 7 mos and I feel thisdebacle with Lerhman cost us valuable correction time. Krieger feelsthat we are ok at 7 mos but the helmet has to be done now. He doesn'tlike to wait past 10 mos. I will keep you updated as to our progresswith the DOC band and thank you for your support. Talk is cheap. Use Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls.
