Guest guest
How do you handle insulin when you go out to eat? I have a DiaPac that has space for an ice pac to keep my insulin cool all day. It holds the meter and everything I need (syringes, alcohol pads, etc.) I don't eat until I get to work in the morning, so I can't take my morning shot until I'm at work. That's not a problem. I usually go from work to other meetings (I'm on the board of directors of an art gallery in addition to my full time job... plus I take some odd jobs doing photo shoots... so I'm quite busy)... I've made it a rule not to go anywhere without my insulin, since I never know where I'll be or if I'll get home etc. Also, I help out at a bar on the weekends (I do photography for their advertising and also help the staff close)... so my hours can be really strange, but at almost 50, it keeps me young...... but I digress.... ;-) During the week if I go out for dinner, sometimes I take my shot in the car. But some places have long waits... so that would be (possibly) too early to take my shot. While I don't have a problem taking the shot in my car... I don't care for taking it in the bathroom. I don't use a pen, so it's a little difficult to discretely draw up a syringe... I have injected at the table.. but what is the 'proper' thing to do? ;-) (Where is Miss Manners when you need her?) ;-) I did have someone make an 'addict' comment one time when I was injecting in the car.. I just laughed at them and said 'dude.. it's insulin, not heroin!' Mike
Guest guest
I prefill my syringe before I leave home and inject in the restroom as soon as salad comes. I know differant insulins have to be taken differantly. I use Humilin 70/30. =sunny --- Mike wrote: > How do you handle insulin when you go out to eat? > > I have a DiaPac that has space for an ice pac to > keep my insulin cool all > day. Guest guest
I have always wondered this too, as I have heard shooting Insulin in restrooms can be one of the most Filthy unhealthy places, and you should avoid this place at all costs. I have shot Insulin when I have been in Restaurants without going into the Restroom, but only if the place is not too crowded, or when I am not with a Large group of people. As for at work, I usually do it right there in the Breakroom. A lot of the people I work with, know I am insulin Diabetic, and most of the time, I will do it where everyone cannot look to draw attention. But I have seen some get Curious too... But it is getting easier to do it there with others around. As for the pen, I have one... I did not like the results I was getting, but might consider using it again if I had too. But for me, I just carry my Insulin, and syringes everywhere I go, and go from there. And I do not carry mine in a container that is Cold, as I heard it is not necessary. ~~TINA~~ -- Shooting insulin How do you handle insulin when you go out to eat? Guest guest
Prefilling syringes would be a good idea, except I take 80 units of Novolin 70/30 and I have yet to find something that I can put a 1cc syringe in when it's got 80 units of insulin in it (just too long). > > I prefill my syringe before I leave home and inject in > the restroom as soon as salad comes. Guest guest
Lee, I don't know. I sent the seller an email. I've seen some exactly like this on another website that had a better description, they would hold a 1cc syringe with up to 70 units of insulin (I take 80). Maybe these are a little different! Guest guest
Well, my son is fairly newly diagnosed (Oct) and while he's old enough to do all the stuff on his own (15 yrs), I don't know if he could do the testing and then draw up the 2 types of insulin and give himself the shot all in a bathroom stall w/o touching anything else. I'm probably borderline germophobic and men's bathrooms always seem much more disgusting than women's. I don't know if we can do the prefilled syringes..we just do it like we were told to do it. We do try to keep it fairly discreet with him on the inside of the booth if possible and keeping all the paraphernalia in my purse as much as possible. We can't wait until they let him have a pump!!! My syringe (I prep it before leaving home) goes straight from the case I keep it in to my butt where I usually inject. I can not imagine injecting in from of people. It's not their buisness and I have no desire to share my medical needs. I want to ask what in the world are yall doing with your syringes that they touch any surface in the bathroom - but apparantly everyone has figured out what works for them. I'm not going to question what works for anyone else as long as yall are comfortable with it. -sunny I know I am sounding judgemental - I don't mean to but I couldn't thing of a way to word this any better - sorry. __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I guess could split it into 2 syringes... but that doubles the number of syringes I use and doubles the number of shots I have to give myself. However, it could possibly change the absorption rate for the insulin as well and change the way it affects my blood sugar. (Since the same amount of insulin is now in contact with twice the surface area in the two injection points). Preparing the injection in the bathroom (response to your other post) requires a place to sit my bag, sitting the vial somewhere, messing around with the alcohol swab, etc... in a place where every surface is questionable (including by the sink...)
