Guest guest
Hi Jackie, That was a wonderful doggie story!!! About the histamine foods, well, I don't eat any anymore. I guess when I go out which is not very often. I will have to definitely take more meds whenever I even think about going out. My diet consists of only fresh cooked meat, chicken, beef, pork, collard greens, Russian kale, asparagus, brussel sprouts (only occasionally), sweet potatoes, spaghetti squash, butternut squash. I can eat pears, apples, mango's and that's about it. I do eat lettuce as well. The only fat that I can eat is ground flax seeds and butter. Anyway, I'm sure some things were missed but that's basically it. Oh ye, I do cook my roasts, chicken and immediately freeze it in one serving portions. I nuke it and eat it right away and that works for me. Although my hives are far from gone they are better when I follow this plan. Guest guest
Hello, everyone. I have a question for everyone who is on (or been on) the histamine diet. Are any of you becoming MORE sensitive to histamine in foods? I wonder if I am.... Pre-diet, I was eating a lot of histamine-rich foods all the time, and was always itchy/hiving, flushing, headaches, and had a lot of gastro problems. The Gastrocrom calmed a lot of it down, but still would get symptoms once or twice a week (rather than constant), and definitely milder than they were. Then when I went on the diet, everything cleared up. I can eat tiny amounts of food with histamine in them without any problems, but if I eat too much, now I start shocking. For example, on Valentine's day we went out for dinner. There wasn't much to choose from (for me) on the menu, so I decided to risk the roast beef sandwich after the waitress assured me the roast beef was freshly cooked. That night, I started shocking with one of the worst episodes in a long time. Throat was so swollen you could actually see the swelling on my neck. Still trying to get everything back under control... Oh, and I must share this with all you animal lovers out there! Last night one of my dogs woke me up around 3am - licking my face, which this dog NEVER does. He didn't want to go outside, he just kept bugging me. Once I came fully awake, I realized I was going downhill again - flushing, sore throat, coughing, stuffed up, hiving and itching, migraine-like headache... He woke me up because he KNEW where I was headed! My hero! Air hugs, Jackie Life is tough, but I'm tougher. _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com
Guest guest
Hi Jackie! I have not tried the Histamine diet as of yet, so no info here. Just wanted to tell you how sorry I feel that you are feeling so bad and hope you are feeling better? Also, as a dog lover myself, you need to give that pup a BIG TREAT for waking you up!! Its funny but somehow they know, my German Shepard who is only 1 yr old, is the same, I have taught her since she was 2 months and I could hold her to give " Hugs & Kisses " I would wrap her paws around my neck bury my face in her fur and give her a big hug.............Well apparently she caught on, she is now a BEAST and 1 day I was laying on the couch not feeling well, she was looking at me and I said " I sure could use a Hug & Kiss " right now...........well, she knew exactly what I wanted, she climbed up on me, wrapped her big ole paws around my neck and buried her face in my neck!!! then she looked at me and planted a big sloppy kiss on my cheek!! So now this is Our thing and I just love her!! Just wanted to share one of my dog stories too!! What a neat job you have too!! Hope you are feeling better!! Guest guest
Hi Jackie: I'm sorry to hear that you are shocking and hope you get through this phase soon. When I first started on the low histamine diet, I became extremely sensitive to any histamines in food. My reactions were also different than they had been before--they were more frequently located in my throat and esophagus, including weird espohageal spasms that hurt my whole chest. I had to adhere very strictly to the diet for the first 2-3 months or else arm myself with major antihistamines and prednisone before going to bed (I always have my worst reactions at night). My " fall-back " foods were fresh baked chicken and corn-on-the-cob with butter and salt (it was summer) when things weren't going so well. I *knew* that these foods were safe for me and that I could tolerate them well. These symptoms started to go away after about 4 months on the diet. I've now been on the diet for about 8 months, and find that I can tolerate small amounts of some forbidden foods, like chocolate. Cheese now gives me a major headache, and plain eggs make me itchy and give me a few hives, in addition to having to run to the bathroom. If you can get througb this tough phase by adhering very strictly to the diet then you may just come through it to a better phase. I sincerely hope that this happens for you. I'm now off all antihistamines AND methylprednisolone. I'm still dealing with pred withdrawal symptoms, but I'll take them over hives any day!! > > Hello, everyone. Guest guest
Jackie, I wonder if it was something in the broth that they cook the beef in or even the spices. Most restaurants use cheap spices. I haven't noticed any more sensitivity, but it has only been about 1-1/2 months for me on the diet. Great dog you have!!!! My briard knows when I'm bad too. Sometimes with the angio I don't know if I've fallen asleep or passed out. My pup, Patience lays on the floor next to the couch and " niffs me " under my nose about once an hour. It's a joke here at home that she's seeing if I'm still alive. She also smells my skin and knows when its a bad day. They are soooo smart...maybe even smarter than our docs! LOL Please take care of yourself as best you can. I'm sure everyone here feels the same. J.
Guest guest
Thanks, . Hopefully I will go through the same phases, then, and get past this one! Blah! I've only been on the diet for about a month and half, maybe two months. Perhaps the body just needs a chance to rid itself of all that histamine load first! Really glad you're doing so well with it - makes me even more determined to keep going! Air hugs, Jackie Life is tough, but I'm tougher. _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
