Guest guest
I just wanted to know if anyone was sucessful in fighting Tricare. I know our pediatrician said that he knows of 2 people that are appealing and they are all the way up to then congressman and they are still being denied. I hate this. I am so stressed out about having to pay so much money to have this done. It is the principle of having insurance and not having them cover something that your child needs. I had to quit my job because my son has a chromosome anomoly and stops breathing and no one knows why. I should be concentrating on getting my son better, but I have this aching stress of insurance not covering it. It is almost like if I were to take in a child that has a disability, I could get paid something from the state, but if you decided to keep and take care of your child with a disability, you are left out in the cold, especially if you have a savings. Well all we are living on is our savings and that is going to run out eventually, especially if I have to keep on paying for medical expenses out of my pocket. Sorry for babbling, I am just depressed and frustrated. Trudy
Guest guest
Hi Trudy, Welcome to the group. I'm sorry Tricare has denied you. On what grounds was their denial? Was your son born with plagio? We had one member get Tricare to pay for her daughter's DOCbands when she appealed. It was all in the wording. From what I understand Tricare won't pay for treatment of POSITIONAL plagio. They will pay for CONGENTIAL plagio. I'm pretty sure that's how Christie was able to get Mya's DOCbands covered. Good luck and keep us posted! Don't give up, keep fighting. > > I just wanted to know if anyone was sucessful in fighting Tricare. Guest guest
Hi Trudy, I am not sure if you are in the military or not but I am just guessing by u saying u have Tricare. Tricare denied my twins also for starbands. I took my deniel to the state of CA (childrens services and mediCAL) who also denied coverage. After that I took all 3 of my deniels to Air Force Aid Society who gave us a $3800 grant. Like u I was very upset that Tricare would not cover my sons bands b/c they did not have it at birth but one of the causes for their plagio was b/c they where premature. I understand your frustration and hope that if you are in the military you ask you your familiy support or leadership in squadron about what agancies can help. Also VFW and American Legion can help. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help or if you just need someone to talk to. Guest guest
Hi Trudy, I have tricare too. My husband is in the Army in Iraq fighting for a second year long year tour there, and we are loaded with adoption loans for adopting our baby boy. I've put the first helmet therapy bill on our cc, but we are maxed out financially and feeling the crunch of having to pay for his helmet therapy. Our doctor (off post care) said he doesn't even bother filing it with tricare anymore because they've come up with every excuse in the book to not pay for it,and said he's never seen anyone win the fight for tricare to pay. What burns me up is that I've heard there are wives getting cosmetic surgery like liposuction at certain bases for free, but tricare can't help a baby??? I've been trying to track down anyone who has received cosmetic surgery from the military for free, and fight it from that angle if I can find someone. I've tried two state agencies for help & local media for help, and have been turned down. I'm just taking this one day at a time. I have resorted to asking for donations from visitors who visit our web site, but no takers there either. A normal average military couple has trouble with their finances when a baby arrives, but add to that we have adoption loans to have made our miracle dream come true. I'm just taking this one day at a time praying that somehow we'll see the light at the end of the tunnel. God will see us through this, but the waiting for things to fall into place is umbearable. Please let me know if you find any information that would be useful/helpful to us. I'm even researching grants after reading about the airforce grant. I'm praying the Army has something similar. Thanks for bringing this subject up,
Guest guest
, Just read your message. Here is the website for the army emergency relief which I am pretty sure is the same as AF Aid. www.aerhq.org/ It is very upsetting to me that our service men and women can die for there country but our children can not get the medical care they need. www.defenselink.mil/news/ Dec2000/n12192000_200012192.html - 49k - Here is an article about AF members being able to have tattoos removed for free even if you can not see them in uniform. If you need any help or questions feel free to email me. Sunshine mommie to and Vedder one year old twins starband 2/16/06 > > Hi Trudy, I have tricare too. Guest guest
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH for this information!!! I hope this helps our plight...! I thought AER only gave loans. I didn't realize they could give grants too. I'm going to try and see if they can help us any at all. Say a prayer..! Thanks! > > > > Hi Trudy, I have tricare too. Guest guest
I went to the AER web site and they do give grants to some people. I'm going to give it a try. I emailed Dave to send me another power of attorney though because the one he gave me is still in Guatemala with the US Embassy. They wanted the original. So, I have no POA on hand. I'm hoping Dave will email me back that he can make one there in Iraq and send it to me. So far AER Is the best hope I've seen yet. Wish me luck, and thank you so much...!!! > > > > Hi Trudy, I have tricare too.
