Hi , The higher number from the blood glucose could have been caused by a number of things. Different doctors diagnose diabetes at different levels. What did your doctor tell you about diabetes? He is the only one that can make a diagnoses for you. If you are not satisfied with these results, continue testing your bg's occasionally and see if the numbers start going up. Continue eating healthy meals, exercising and you should be okay. hugs Eunice

Guest guest
- You always wish you could go back in time - LOL My advice is to take it seriously. I wish I would have. Now that I am very low on the diabetic scale, there is no going back. This is my opinion only -- I would say lose weight (if you need to), don't drink soda pop, watch your carbs and sugar intake. Do some sort of exercise. Educate yourself. I had gestational diabetes and told " someday " it would probably return to stay. In those 8 years I gained weight, exercised less, and did not achieve my personal goals. Now I don't have that choice. Dana ) Doug, Dana & Cassidy (age 8) I am not diabetic....but..... Guest guest
Dana, Thanks for the advice. I am over weight and need to lose about 50 more. I have been on a diet for about 3 weeks now and lost about 12 pounds. I have eliminated 80 of my sugar intake and about 60 percent of my carb intake. My recent blood test shows my HOMOCYSTEINE is a few points above normal range and my FERRITIN is high. I have PN and the neurologist is trying to find out why. Funny thing is my B12 and my Serum Folate are in the middle of the normal range. Today I decided to increase my Folic acid amount in the hope of lowering my HOMOCYSTEINE level. > > > > > - You always wish you could go back in time - LOL > My advice is to take it seriously. Guest guest
Eunice, The doc moves at a snails pace. I was just there today to get my blood results and my Nerve Conduction results. My NC studies were abnormal (because I have PN). My doctor told me I am " borderline " diabetic, but is referring me to diabetes management classes. She also said they'll be thrilled when I show up with my numbers because most people referred for the classes are already farther down the line. I am also overweight, plus both my parents are diabetic (my father died of congestive heart failure, my mother is still living but suffering badly from PN). So I feel I have to take this seriously. I have modified my diet already as you have. I am starting to lose weight slowly. I test my blood every morning, although my dr did not stress the need to test. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to hopefully avoid the complications of diabetes, for as long as possible. Carla

Guest guest
Guys, I am a little confused. Im not second guessing and I am not a doctor but everything I have read indicates a A1C of 5.8 is normal. Fasting Glucose of 99 is also normal. If you are over that maybe 100 to 125 it indicates IFG (Impaired Fasting Glucose). If you go up into the higher range like 130 to 140 it only indicates diabetes. One fasting test would not be diagnostic but suspicious. Granted, the bottom line is the sooner you take care of yourself the less likely that this will progress into full blown diabetes. There is also other lab work that will need to get done to really nail down a diagnosis of diabetes like urine, triglycerides & cholesterol. If your other chemicals are way out of wack that is also a sign of diabetes. (I am quoting some information the American Family Physician April,15 2004.) http://www.aafp.org/afp/20040415/1961.html Anyway, taking care of yourself and loosing weight is very good advice if you want your blood sugar lower. If you are overweight I would follow the Docs instructions. Also, please forgive the following rant..... I just wonder if the medical industry is really taking this to an extreme. I mean comon! For years fasting of 140 or so was borderline. Two consecutive fasting tests of 140 indicates diabetes. Now they are lableing people diabetic at 99? Does this sound weird to anyone?? Then you will hear an annoucement put out by the government that says everyone is too overweight and diabetic. Well, yeah if you keep changing the measuring stick and compare it to numbers that were measured differently previously you could come to that conclusion but are the numbers real? Man, is it diabetes or insurance companies? Anyway, are there others that are suspicious out there or am I needing antidepressents and shock therapy. Regards, Vance > > > > I just got my A1c results back. It was 5.4. Guest guest
The first indication of diabetes is a significantly impaired first phase insulin production which only shows up in a glucose tolerance test. AIC and glucose can remain normal or perhaps only slightly elevated.
