I think someone who has been through cycles of loss and regaining is probably less likely to be able to keep the weight off. These would be especially true for those with real physiological differences in appetite control. But for those who are overweight simply because they like to eat a lot, the shock of diabetes Dx might be enough to get them to eat less on a permanent basis. > That is what happened to me. I overate because I loved the taste of what I liked. I wanted a lot of what I liked not a little & I felt, other than extra weight it really didn't matter that much. I accepted being fat as the price of eating whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Then came the DM diagnosis & I realized I had been living in a fool's dream world. So I woke up & quit overeating. Now I just don't have the appetite I used to have. I often eat only twice a day & have little interest in food or how it is prepared. (I used to love to cook). I eat the healthy dm basics, cooked as simply as possible & let it all go at that. I doubt I will regain. I am actually still losing. Course I was not a fat child & have never cycled weight loss & gain--so that is the biggie. cappie Greater Boston Area T-2 10/02 8/05 A1c: 5.1 = 96 mean glu 50-100 carb diet, walking, Metformin ALA/EPO, ALC, Vit C, Calc/mag, low dose Biotin, full spectrum E, Policosanol, folic acid, B 12 fish oil cap, fresh flax seed, multi vitamin, Lovastatin 40 mg/coQ10 100mg, Enalapril 10 mg 5/05:140 lbs (highest weight 309) 5' tall /age 67, cappie@...
