Hi, Sue here, not Mike. I take fish oils for inflammation. It is probably

best to buy a brand that does not belch back up fishy....they do make those

now. I use the Shaklee brand and I have severe GI issues, so if I can tolerate

it most anyone can. Also, flaxseed ground up and put into breads, on oatmeal,

is also very helpful, plus beneficial in the fiber department. You can also

buy the flaxseed oil, which needs to be refrigerated. It is tasty, goes nice

in shakes, on oatmeal or in salad dressings with olive oil. It supplies

omega-3 fatty acids which helps keep inflammation in check.

I have tried MSM in the past, which is a form of vegetable sulfurs.....I am

not sure if it helps or not...I was not real compliant. Others here might be

able to help you on that one.

I am not sure about Shark cartilage.....my opinion is shark eat just about

anything and are known to carry a lot of toxic wastes because of their size and

fats......I guess this would be the reason I would be careful of using it.

Don't know if it works or not.

Also, make sure whatever brand of product you buy is reputable. They should

be able to tell you the amount of " active " ingredient and have expiration

dates. Also, just like meds, supplements work differently for everyone, so what

works for one may not work for another. Also, be careful these don't interfere

with meds you are on. The best way to know this kind of info is to look it

up in a good reference book. I use the PDR of Herbal Medicine. Mike mentioned

some others a short time ago.

I tend to stick with " food " stuffs as I am on a lot of meds. Some herbals

are things that have always been eaten, just in a more concentrated form. Some

examples are flaxseed, fish oils, marshmallow (used to be what they made

marshmallows from), slippery elm (mucilaginous fiber that used to be used in

breads

and was a staple in the civil war), corn silk (just like what it sounds like,

LOL!), and cranberry....there are tons more. You do still need to be sure

there are not medication interaction. And as always, if you decide to take

something, listen to your body and how you feel about taking it. If it doesn't

seem right don't take it. I hope this helps. Take care.

Hugs,

Sue G.

Hi Mike,

We already discussed glucosamine chondroitin in the past. But my new

question is can Shark cartilage do anything to decrease

inflammation? I keep getting tendosynovitis of the bicept

tendons, which led to the left one rupturing, part of my surgery last

week. Now the right one's are feeling inflammed. I just can't take

NSAIDS.

Thanks,

S.

Thanks Sue,

I'll look into it. Is GNC a reputable store?

Thanks S.

Thanks for the link. It looks like a good site with basic

information. But from a quick scan, it looks like you need to

subsribe and pay them an annual fee to get into the detailed product

reviews. I will browse through it in more detail later.

Hi ,

I use the Shaklee brand. It does not have an overpowering fishy taste. If

you have GERD, this is real concern. hope this helps. Take care.

interact with the GERD?

Thanks, S.

Well, if you are like em, you will belch it up.......so some brands are

really bad. there is another brand that is supposed to be good with this

besides

the brand I use, but I can't remember ythe name. Many health food stores will

carry this brand. just aks, and they can probably show you which brands won't

cause this.
