Guest guest
Hello Everyone! I am new to the group and my 5mounth old daughter was just fitted for her cranial molding helmet from Hanger. We have UHC so we have been denied. WE are getting ready to start the appeal process. I am so glad I found this wonder resourceful site! Although I am getting concerned about making the correct descision about going through Hanger. We had to pay out of pocket and Hanger was cheaper than CT. We live in Phoenix and are using Jermey Livingston for the Orthoist? sp The more I look at the hanger helmets...the bigger they get. I am now regreting not going with CT for the DOC band. Does anyone have any words of wisdom for my husband and me? I mean it is probably to late cause the helmet is being made as we speak. Are Hanger helmets horrible? If anyone has any reviews on Jermey Livingston in Phoenix at Hanger let me know. Thanks! Concerned,
Guest guest
Hi! My son is in a Hanger and so far so good...We had it decorated and I get so many cute comments...We are in NY so I'm not familiar with your orthotist but from what I gather around here, it is very important to have someone with experience. Good Luck! Mom to 7 months, tort and plagio, Hanger 4/17/06 6 Laina
Guest guest
Hello and welcome. My Daughter wore a Hanger Band for 11 weeks and got wonderful correction! (you can see her before and after pics in before and after/Hanger Band under V) We had a great experience with Hanger. Yes, the bands are a little more " bulky " ( I guess you could say) than the DOC, but that's really just aesthetics. As long as the Ortho is experienced, you should be able to see great correction with the Hanger Band. Do you know how much experience he has with the cranial band? You really do want to do your research and find out how many plagio babies he treats. There are tips in the files section on appealing Ins for coverage. Good luck with that! Keep us updated! Guest guest
Hello. My Daughter wore a Hanger Band for 11 weeks (from 7mo,1wk until 10 mo) and she got great correction. You can look at her before and after pics under before and after/Hanger Band under V. The DOC band is not really any better than other active bands, but rather the consistency of the training that the technicians get. The most important factor in having your baby banded is making sure that the Orthotist is experienced. This is KEY. With Cranial Technologies (the makers of the DOCband) the training is very uniform and consitent. However, with other places (such as Hanger) the training isn't always required and/or as consistent. This is something that Hanger is working towards though. What Orthotist/Hanger location are you using in NY? Maybe others have used that Ortho before and can share their experience. I know Brown in NYC is very good, but not sure where you are in NY. As long as the Ortho you are using is experienced and does bands on a regular basis, etc, you should be able to see great results. Guest guest
Thanks. We are going to the Hanger location in Farmingdale Long Island and we are seeing (Tony). I see other infants with helmets in and out of the location all the time, but I am not sure how much experience he has. I need to find out. However, he was recommended by our pediatric neurologist who is affiliated with Schneider's Children Hospital, which has a great reputation. So far, Madison is having improvment. I will also look at your pictures. Thanks so much. , NYJen <ronandjenvelez@...> wrote: Hello. My Daughter wore a Hanger Band for 11 weeks (from 7mo,1wk until 10 mo) and she got great correction. Guest guest
Hi - I called the location and they told me that Tony has over 5 years experience. That seems like a good amount. I also see letters of appreciation hanging in the office from parents who have had successful treatments, so I guess that is a good sign too. I am sure everything will be fine. Thanks again! , NYJen <ronandjenvelez@...> wrote: Hello. My Daughter wore a Hanger Band for 11 weeks (from 7mo,1wk until 10 mo) and she got great correction. Guest guest
Hello. My Daughter wore a Hanger Band and we had a very good experience. But, it isn't so much the band that you use as the Orthotist. The real key to getting good treatment and good correction is more dependent on having a good, experienced Orthotist. The Hanger Band, STARband and the DOC band are all great products as long as they are in the right hands. Good luck with your decision. Guest guest
Hi , We are in the midst using a Hanger helmet to treat my son's severe brachycephaly and mild plagiocephaly. We have been very pleased with his progress so far. He has had the helmet for about 2 months and his numbers have improved. He started out at a cephalic index of 105% and is down to 95%, and his plagiocephaly has decreased from 4% to less than 1%. We were told that the brachy was much harder to band, so we wouldn't see as much of an correction vs. the plagiocephaly (and I think this is true of the CT DOC band too). The only thing we are not pleased about is that he has a lump over one of his ears (the opposite side to the buckle); however, I saw earlier postings that this was also happening to babies who had worn the DOC band too. I think it may be just the result of banding in general. I don't have any data to compare the band to the CT. However, I know that we are happy with the progress. And since there are no CT offices within a few hours of us, I know we made the right decision to go with Hanger given the frequency of adjustment needed (every 2-3 weeks), and that both my husband and I work, and can't take that much time to drive a few hours somewhere else. Hope this helps! JaymeShaman88_88 <shaman88_88@...> wrote: Hi,My Ped recommended 2 places: cranial therapies which handles the doc band and Hangers. Does anyone have opinions regarding which band is better. We live in Los Angeles, and the local cranial therapy place will be closed the next closest one is in Sandiego. I am wondering whether Hangers will be just as good.Concerned mom - cindy Ready for the edge of your seat? Check out tonight's top picks on TV. Guest guest
my daughter had a hanger band from 9-12 months. she got some correction in the beginning, but after a while i don't think the helmet was fitting right. the ortho never made an adjustment and kept telling me that the fit was fine. however the helmet was tighter on the flat side and looser on the rounder side, which made no sense. my daughter now has a CT band. i think the problem with the hanger band was more so the ortho rather than the helmet. i have read a lot of postings from people who have had a good experience with hanger. candice, nyShaman88_88 <shaman88_88@...> wrote: Has anyone used the hanger band and if you have, what was your experience?
