Hi

I don't mean to exclude any younger rosaceans but I have been racking my brain

trying to figure out this R-thing. I am or will be 50 in a few weeks. I was

first diagnosed about 12-13 years ago ONLY because I had some flakiness on my

lower right jaw. Anyway, what I am wondering, shouldn't Ihave had other signs of

rosacea before........... a history of l flushing or blushing? Before my

diagnosis I was very active... biking everyday for 40-50 km in the hot sun most

of the time with no sunscreen and no makeup. This was in the late 70's. I spent

countless winters crosscountry skiing, sliding with my young son, skating on the

frozen ponds and walking walking. In the summer, we were avid canoers as well. I

cannot, honestly ever remember having a red face. As a child I was always

deathly pale. I have vivid memories of one doctor sending me for blood tests

becasue he thought I was enemic. Iwas that pale.

Now, what am I trying to say is..... can rosacea appear suddenly out of the

blue?

Thanks for all your help and encourgaement. Times which I am down, I feel as if

I am going to burst. It truly helps to speak to you guys. I am worried though

that I will bring you down too. That is the very last thing I want to do. I will

be eagerly checking my mail for days to see what you all have to say about this.

Kindest regards

Hi ,

I am 41 and was diagnosed with cea about 6 months ago. I don't

recall a history of flushing or blushing either. Very active, always

outdoors, exercise enthusiast. I think mine started when I was

pregnant 5 years ago. I developed pre-eclampsia (pregnancy induced

hypertension) and when I look at pictures from that time I can see the

changes. My body went through a major " stress " period then. A couple

years after that I came down with shingles (another " stress " thing).

Only in the past year did I notice alot of redness and this past

winter the papules and pustules started up. After trying medications

that made me worse, I am now only using Jojoba oil, aloe gel, zinco

and drinking LOTS of water everyday. I do see some improvement. Hope

it lasts!

Good luck,

Peggy

Hi

I just read your story and I understand why your asking. It does seem

strange that you got it so late in life and no warning signs earlier on his

your life.

Me, I'm 34 years old and it was the typical story - started with blushing

when I was about 13 years old and then graduated into flushing and permanent

redness etc., etc.

As you had such an active outdoor life maybe it was brought on by sun

damage.

I'm sorry that I can't help more but I'm sure there are others out there

with the same experience.

Good luck and bye for now.

Hi ,

Thanks for your respnse to my response. I think I

have heard that rosacea can be stress related.

Emotional stress is somethjing that I normally deal

with quite well. Physiological stress (pre-eclampsia)

is something I have no control of. I have heard that

many people use different B vitamins for cea,

which also happens to be recomended for stress! As

for hormones, as it turns out, I am also pre menopause

and have been for about two years. All of these

factors in my life definately came about at around the

same time. Hormones also are thought to be a factor

in rosacea.

Just thought I'd share this with you too - when it

comes to trying to look better, or covering up the

rosacea, I have a few " tricks " that I use. Instead of

applying a cover makeup to my whole face, I just try

to minimize the redness on my chin and my nose.

Fornutaly, those two areas only get red - no

papules, etc. By doing that, I have an appearance of

rosy cheeks, but, for a woman that looks more normal

without the red nose. This also means that I've put

less " stuff " on my cheeks and they will be less

irritated. Zinco still goes on my whole face and that

helps to minimized redness overall. Plus, when I do

go in the sun for the reason of tanning, I cover my

face completely, but allow my neck to tan. This helps

to lessen the difference in color between my face and

my my neck. My face looks redder when my neck is

whiter. Getting an " even " color all over fools the

eye. In the winter I use blush on my neck to

acomplish the same thing. I know you didn't ask about

this but I thought I'd pass it on anyway.
