Guest guest
I am having my surgery on Nov 6 and I told my boss this past Tuesday and I slipped and told him what kind of surgery that I am having. But before this he was giving me a sob story so I felt bad and told him that I was having wls. What a mistake. Today, he read me the riot act about this surgery being elective and that becuase it is elective that I had to give him a thirty day notice. He read to me out of the emplyoee handbook about family medical leave act and about having to give a thirty day notice. He also had the nerve to ask me if I plan on coming back to work and that if I wanted to quit there are better ways of doing it. He was borderline threatening. I just wanted to go to the bathroom and cry. He wants me to figure out how my job is going to be managed while I am away. This is his problem. It is not my fault that we don't cross train or have back up for when employees have to leave work for whatever reason. There is no one at my job that know how to do my job, but this is not my fault it is my boss' fault. He suggested that I work from home. He even wants me to call my cable company and find out about getting high speed internet. He says that the company would pay for it. He has so much gall. Any suggestions or ideas. What have other done in this situation. I would appreciate anything anyone has to offer.

Guest guest
Wow, he is very uncaring and insensitive. Unfortunately, if you live in an at-will employment state what he is doing is not illegal. Right now, you have a few weeks before surgery. See if he will let you cross-train someone. It's always a good idea to have people cross-trained anyway because you never know what might happen! Even if you can teach someone else the basics, depending on the nature of you job it might just be necessary to do a few things from home. I've done it before and might do it when I have surgery. I am a paralegal and there are some things that I don't need to be at the office to do. Of course, I know when I am gone that I usually come back to a desk full of work. That is the price I pay for working for a sole practitioner and being her only employee, but I love my job and wouldn't trade it for anything. Well, for almost anything. I would gladly be the attorney instead of the paralegal, but I digress. Basically, I would sit down and talk to him calmly. Don't let him intimidate you. Also, check the employment law in your state. Having to give 30 days notice for FMLA doesn't sound right to me because sometimes you just don't have any advance warning. Good luck to you, both with your boss and with your surgery! Guest guest
Or the boss may not feel this reason applies to the FLMA or that she is not complying to the FLMA with regards to notification. I don't think any of us were at this exchange or inside the boss' head. If she feels the boss is harassing her simply because of the type of procedure then she should, again, go to her HR department and complain. In fact, she should have done that in the first place and should do that now to help the boss (and herself) become less confused and more informed. > > > > > > How rude of him and you have rights under the family leave act > and > > please do > > > not let him bully you because it sounds like that is what he is > > trying to do > > > to you. > > > Lin > > > Lhsh@ > > > American by birth, > > > Saved by the grace of God. > > > > > > [GastricBypass- LOSERS] Boss Problem > > > > > > > > > I am having my surgery on Nov 6 and I told my boss this past > Tuesday > > > and I slipped and told him what kind of surgery that I am > having. > > But > > > before this he was giving me a sob story so I felt bad and told > him > > > that I was having wls.
