Guest guest
Compact All Folders - in Outlook Express Email When you " delete " email in Outlook Express, they aren't really deleted! If you ever upgraded one version of Outlook Express to a newer version you probably experienced that: after upgrading you noticed a lot of old email you thought you had deleted had " returned " . Outlook Express just removes the " pointers " to the actual email from the index when you delete, but to actually remove the email from your hard drive, you need to run the Compact Folder function. You can access this function easily from the Outlook Express menu: File > Folder. Click on File > then click on Folder. Now you can choose to either Compact, or Compact All Folders. The difference is that by choosing Compact, this will only compact the folder without actually removing old email from the hard drive, while choosing " Compact All Folders " will remove them all from the hard drive. john
Guest guest
> Compact All Folders - in Outlook Express Email - Thanks much for the tip on this. When I delete something, I want it deleted and gone forever - particularly all that obnoxious spam that keeps showing up in spite of having filters. I ran a virus scan the other night and was absolutely shocked to see how many files it went through. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of telling my wife about it. I said something like " Boy, do you have a lot of photo editing files on the computer. " I immediately dropped the subject when she looked at me over the top of her glasses and said " And your point is? " Mike

Guest guest
> Mike, on the subject of cleaning up hard files you can download some software that safely eradicates uneeded files such as temp file and cookies from your system too. I can send you the link for the download pages for WebClean if you would like? ----------------- Please - I would appreciate it. I used to be able to retaliate on junk mail by sticking all of their garbage back into their postage prepaid envelopes and mailing it back to them ... along with just enough extra paper to push them over the line on their bulk mail permits. I haven't figured out how to do that with cyberspam. Mike
