I read BTVC and have looked around pecanbread and breakingtheviciouscycle websites. His symptoms are constipation and psoriasis and chronic stuffy nose, and mega food intolerances. He has been everything-free for many years. We started this diet 3 days ago, but I have these questions--Hope someone can help. 1- He has been eating cultured vegetables for a long time. Are these allowed, and if so, at what stage? 2- He drinks young coconut water fermented with two strains of bacteria. Is this allowed, and at what stage? 3- We have been using a few drops of stevia to make some of his powder drinks palatable (amino acids). What do you all use to sweeten supplement drinks? 4- He has been eating almond yogurt for a year. Do we have to back it off and wait until a certain stage to reintroduce it? 5- The book says white beans are ok when diarrhea has cleared. He has no diarrhea. The info from one of the websites on introducing the stages says that beans are allowed in stage 4 (haricot, lentils, lima, navy and split peas). Which advice should we follow? just curious, since he doesn't tolerate beans at all except possibly adukis. What about adukis? 6- Why no coconut milk? I thought coconut was a nut, and nuts are allowed. 7- It says nut milk is allowed. I soaked almonds, then blended with water and added veg glycerine. Was that ok? 8- The list of foods to be introduced in stages omits raspberries. Are they ok? 9- We had to go through stage 1, 2 and part of 3 in two days, since we have to rotate some foods and there wasn't enough to rotate in the first few days. He gets intolerant if he eats the same food too often. I'm assuming the big switch is from stage 3 to stage 4 (cooked to raw). How do I know when to switch? 10- He always tolerated most seeds well. Since he can't eat meat, chicken, eggs, or dairy, or fish (except salmon), seeds are a good source of protein for him. Why are nuts allowed, but not seeds? Thanks for your help. a H. Guest guest
Hi, you have many questions, and I don't know the answer to most, but I will answer to the ones I can. I found a lot of information at www.pecanbread.com and Elaine's website. > 2- He drinks young coconut water fermented with two strains of > bacteria. Is this allowed, and at what stage? acidophilous is the only one recommended. > > 3- We have been using a few drops of stevia to make some of his > powder drinks palatable (amino acids). If you are doing the stages yes, you could wait and introduce it maybe after one or two weeks. > > 5- The book says white beans are ok when diarrhea has cleared. He > has no diarrhea. If you know that he does not tolerate beans, do not give them to him! I think you can pretty much read BTVC changing " diarrhea has cleared " to " stool has normalized " . YOur goal is not to get rid of diarrhea but the opposite! > > 6- Why no coconut milk? I thought coconut was a nut, and nuts are > allowed. I don't know. > > 7- It says nut milk is allowed. Why did you add glycerine? > > 8- The list of foods to be introduced in stages omits raspberries. > Are they ok? > The pecanbread list is just indicative... check Elaine's website for a complete list of foods and whether they are legal or not. I give my son raspberries, so I hope they are OK! > 9- We had to go through stage 1, 2 and part of 3 in two days, since > we have to rotate some foods and there wasn't enough to rotate in the > first few days. The list is only a suggestion... so you can use foods from different stages - HOWEVER, SCD is about the " cooking " . Do not give raw fruits or vegetables for a while. Peel and seed everything at first. Use nut butter first, then nut flour, then nut milk. Do not deep fry for a while... > > 10- He always tolerated most seeds well. Seed butters are legal, according to Elaine's website. And seed are also allowed later in the diet. Again, I think it comes down to how we process food in order to help aide digestion, and not so much the food itself. >>>> Have you done food intolerance or allergy tests on him?
