Did anyone have to cut their baby's hair so the helmet would not shift?

Okay, Okay, I know it's not that big of a deal, but I don't want to cut

my son's hair. It's bad enough he is moving to a " toddler " , but that

coupled with the helmet and now they tell me to cut his " infant "

hair....it's just a lot to take in lol

Was anyone recommended to cut their baby's hair and did it help the

helmet to not shift?? My son's orthotist has worked really hard to try

to make the helmet not shift and he's told me, now at both

appointments, that it would help if his hair was cut....to a level 2:(

We were bot told to cut Jenna's hair. I did cut a bit though to help with her sweating. There have been many babies with lots of hair that were banded. They did just fine.

Jocelyn, We have our appt to get casted tomorrow at CT and I am hoping that they do not tell us that. Our baby girl has a beautiful head full of curly hair and I just don't think I could bear to cut it. we were advised for our grandson to have his hair cut in advance of the starband but more for the reasoning that the hair was prob. going to be rubbed down/off for some reason

My son had a ton of hair while wearing his STARband and we did not have to

cut it while he was wearing it. We chose to cut the sides a bit only

because it started looking obnoxious hanging out the sides of the band :>)

When I put the band on him I tried to comb his hair up first so that most of

it stuck out the top of the band (see picture -

.. Most babies tend to lose their fine baby hair and sometimes the band

speeds up the process. In our case we didn't lose any hair; Nic's older

brother also had a ton of hair and never lost any so I think the hair loss

is more hereditary rather than the band causing it.

Well, my ds has a ton of hair, and I was never told to cut his hair. I guess each ortho is different. And, if he really thinks it might help with the shifting..... it's such a temporary thing. His hair will grow back, and if you cut it down to a 2, it might grow back even faster and thicker than it is now. I understand your hesitation. I was so worried Tiernan would lose his hair (thankfully he didn't) but it's a small price to pay for their little round heads. We weren't told to cut our son's hair, but his was very thin and

scraggly looking anyway, so we cut it short and it really helped

with the cleaning and the smell. Since they wear the band 23 hours

a day, you don't see more than the top of their head anyway. Maybe

you can leave the top a little longer??

We weren't told to cut hair but, we did on our own. We

figured the shorter the better for sweating purposes. He just got

his band yesterday so we are only on day 1. I am hoping he won't

lose too much hair but, who knows. Hair will grow back, the most

important thing is getting his shaped as round as possible! I

understand where you are coming from though. Good luck!

He is so cute. I think I am going to cut the sides,but leave the top

so that I can let it grow out the top...... I do realize that the

most important thing is that his head rounds out, I am truly not

losing sight of that......

I hope they don't tell you to cut it! I am glad that you feel the

same way b/c I feel horrible feeling this way since I do know the

most important thing is that his head rounds out. Good Luck tomorrow

and for what it's worth.....I keep putting it off and unfortunately

the ortho won't let me forget he told me So use the stall tactic

for a while if they ask you to Keep me posted!

We were told to cut our son's hair so that while putting the helmet on

and taking it off we wouldn't pull his hair. He had A LOT of hair (we

had to cut it at 3 months because it was in his eyes) so it made sense

for us. I'm not sure about the shifting thing, though.
