Word of warning - this is a LONG post. But I think it is worth

reading all the way through.

A few days ago I posted some instructions to Stacey on doing a

Polarity X technique for her knees. Over the last couple of days, I

have had two off-list emails from Cindy H. telling me about her

experiences with trying the technique. I am not violating any

confidences with this because she was going to post something to the

full list about it anyway in the next couple of days. She also gave

me permission in the emails to excerpt and post myself if I wanted

to. Initially, I was just going to let Cindy post.

Yesterday, however, I did excerpt the main portions of her emails

and forwarded them to both the Editor of Pulse (AOBTA) for additonal

info, and to my Polarity Therapy teacher. (I tend to keep Kate in

the loop whenever I try a polarity technique and get good results

with it.) Kate just replied to me first thing this morning. Her

email blew my socks off. Here it is, in full.

" Hi Mike:

Wow, people in the group have such pain! I'm happy that

ANY of this works for them. Just think how wonderful it could be if

they could be treated by someone else and just receive! You know if

there are enough people who want to learn more and they could be

gathered all in one place, I'd be happy to put together a class for

them and teach it for nothing but the transportation and housing and

food. Seems that if helped me understand the disease more, you

could come up with (and maybe check with Jin Shin Do people) points

that make sense and some routines for them and we could come up with

some Polarity and/or Reiki help things. Perhaps it will start

something new like getting NIH funding for research into this! Why

not?

Kate "

As info, my polarity background is about 100 hours of training. If

I decide to go for Certification, I am probably a year away yet from

completing all of the requirements. Kate is not just Certified, she

is a Registered Polarity Practitioner. I believe it takes about 500

hours of basic training to get to that level, plus other

requirements on top of the classroom hours. In other words, she

knows her stuff. But that is not all she does. She is also a

licensed massage practitioner here in Seattle and just recently took

the classes to become certified in lymphedema treatments in

lymphatic drainage. She is also a staff instructor at Ashmead

College teaching at least one of the massage classes. In addition,

she is trained in Reiki, as is her partner.

I know that a couple of people on the list are involved with

arrangements for the next National EDS conference. If there is

interest, and the timing fits with Kate's schedule, I would be more

than willing to work with her locally on setting something up to

have her as one of the presenters at the conference. I will also go

on record right now and say that if it can be worked out, I will

personally donate whatever amount of frequent flyer miles are

required to cover her transportation to and fro.

As for Kate's partner, is not only trained in Reiki, she is

the person that my wife and I took our levels 1 and 2 Reiki classes

from. is also a licensed massage practitioner. Her day job

is as a research chemist at the University of Washington medical

school. She also has extensive experience with medical research

such as the kinds of studies that are done to get FDA approval for

new drugs. She is also the person I took my " formal " training from

on the " scientific " basis for energy work.

Kate's comment about maybe trying to go for some kind of NIH funding

for research literally floored me. It floored me because this is

the direction I have been headed in for the last year but didn't

know how to even start. Like I said in the earlier post about the

AOBTA connection, Kate is well known within APTA. Maybe, just maybe,

we might have a chance with these two organizations to get some

meaningful research started. I was just stunned when I read her

email this morning.

Now, with all of that as background, here is what I sent to Kate,

including excerpts of the two emails Cindy sent me. In fairness,

Cindy started with some understanding of energy work. As you will

read, she felt it and got results on the very first try. Not

everyone will come even close to feeling the sensations like this

the first few times. But the potential is there for all of you.

Like they say, you can't hit the ball if you don't swing the bat.

" Re: (off list) Re: bursectomy

Mike,

I'm sorry this might be on the long side, but I want to let you know

my experiences (what few there are) so you're able to have an idea

where I'm at...

The very first I heard of anything other than traditional medical

treatment was in RN training back in '69-71.

An instructor mentioned therapeutic touch. While working I realized

there was more to what was going with our bodies than we knew. But

until just last year I haven't thought much about it.

When writing last I didn't say this part because I wasn't too sure

if my imagination wasn't in high gear...but there was a twisting

sensation inside the entire knee like it was trying to go back in

place, and at the same time I could feel energy flowing up toward my

hip and also the pressure sensation exerting a downward force from

above the knee.

(It's a relief to know I actually did feel these things. :)

When I read the instructions given Stacey I thought it would take a

bit of time and real deep concentration. When it happened right

away, and so intensely so, it took me by surprise. I thought for

sure I was imagining it. So that's another reason I went off line

and why I questioned what happened.

Last night when I went to bed my hips were so sore. I thought I'd

try to do what I could with the little I did know. It seems the

right one is instinctively found. I know if it's not right-there's

nothing there. Then the other can tell if it's lined up like it

should be. Once found, I had a very similar experience as with the

knees.

I knew last night there is something going on between the knees and

hip, especially on the hip that's partly out. I keep feeling the

twisting sensation going on from both areas. Last night it was so

intense in my knee it hurt. But I stuck with it, and it calmed down.

The intensity was nearly to the point of being a bit frightening.

How tiring! My hip felt better when I woke up than it has been. So

I figured I did something right.

There's lots more to be done, so I'm looking forward to trying the

new procedure you sent.

You have no idea how thrilled I am to have this relief. This beats

opiates for pain relief!!

Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Cindy "

In between the two emails from Cindy, I also replied to her first

one. Given the context of this post, I am also going to include

just a few of the comments I told her.

" You have no idea of the joy it gives me when someone responds back

to me either via open post or off-list email and tells me that they

have tried something I have suggested and that it worked for

them...The sense of satisfaction is beyond words.

You also have no idea of the fine line I have been walking with some

of my posts. The biggest single obstacle I have had to overcome was

being able to present this " stuff " in a way that the average reader

could understand and, more importantly, accept. The hardest thing

for most people to deal with (whether we are talking conventional

doctors or the general public) is getting past the aura of Eastern

mysticism and the Christian concept of " laying on of hands. " Energy

work has nothing to do with either. It is part of what we are as

human beings. It is something inherent in all of us, something that

everyone is capable of doing.

I do, however, agree with you that some people are more naturally

in tune with it, or are less energetically blocked themselves and

therefore able to work with it more effectively.

Getting back to some of your experiences - first and second try -

no, you didn't imagine what you were sensing...I would be willing to

bet money that the sensations you were feeling in your knee resulted

from a fascial release that allowed your knee cap to shift back into

the proper position. I would also be willing to bet money that part

of your chronic knee pain was because of that fascial restriction.

The same thing going up the leg to the hip.

One of the things I discovered when working on 's the

first time is that energy work can and does loosen restricted fascia

(part of the reason why some of my theories have started to

crystalize)...It was kind of an eye opener for me.

As for your hip experience, it sounds like it could be one of two

things or a combination of both. The sense of pressure or force you

are feeling could be the pull of a fascial restriction. It could

also be from a misalignment of the leg bones. If I had to bet, I

would say it is both, but with the misalignment being caused by a

fascial restriction. I would also say to keep doing what you were

doing and see what happens. Wouldn't that just frost your PT's

fanny if you went bopping into his office and said " See what I just

did? " I was doing some leg two-pointing on one of my classmates a

few months back (knee to ankle). She had had a sprial fracture in

her tibia that was never set right or healed right. When I was

done, she told me she could feel her tibia rotating and shifting

back into position while I was working on her.

If you continue to have problems with adhesions under your thumb

scar tissue, check out someone who has been trained in the

methods of Myofascial Release, preferably at level two or

higher. He teaches some scar release techniques that might help.

Another option would be someone with level two or higher training in

the Chikly method of lymphatic drainage. Same thing - he teaches

some scar release techniques that might help.

One other observation. Stop to think about something for a minute.

Go back to your basic Anatomy and Physiology classes when you were

studying to be an RN. It is a known scientific FACT that the human

body is in a constant state of decay and regeneration. Every part of

the body replaces itself on a set time scale, whether it is skin,

bone or any other part. I don't remember the time lines off the top

of my head, but it is a constant cycle from birth to death. And

this is why the body contains within itself everything necessary to

not only repair itself, but to heal itself. I am absolutely

convinced that the reason for some of the more baffling, chronic,

and even auto immune disorders, is that in some fashion that self

repair, self healing mechanism is being blocked. I am rapidly

becoming convinced that that blockage has to do with the body's

energetic systems. Again, this is just a theory I have been playing

around with recently - but boy is it intriguing. "

You might say I have had a rather interesting weekend.
