Guest guest
, Thanks for the warm welcome! I actually joined a Lapband group a few days ago, and it seems all I see is posts about complications. I want something safe that doesn't have to be tinkered with, like all the fills and whatnot. I've been researching the MGB (Mini gastric bypass) and it sounds like the best. My doctor put in a referall to see the barriatric surgeon and I'm nervous. I don't know what to say, what not to say ext.. because my reg doc said I don't need it. He told me I'm young and I'm able to excersise and everything and it really made me mad. In 2003-2004 when I was 18-19 I went from 230-175/180 and by 2005 I was 298. I never saw the 300 mark though. now, in 2006 I'm 255, and down 9 1/2 pounds from the last doc visit. He was very supportive and happy about the almost 10 pound loss. even though he didn't recommend it, he still sent in a referall. I love my doc, but now I have to think of how to tell the barriatric doc that I want the surgery in a way so that he'll do it. I'm in the EARLY stages of high blood pressure and diabetes, my grandma was immobile at age 38 and died at 66. She had diabetes, and my dad is now immobile at the age of 54. I'm pretty sure he also has diabetes, but I don't know for sure. My Grandma died of Congestive heart failure, and I have a heart murmur. I just don't want to go back to almost 300 lbs. I loose weight at super speed when I try, but I've never kept it off, I gain more than I loose. -Dawnyel 295/255/

Guest guest
Yvonne, I believe my BMI is 44, and I don't have an appointment yet. My doc sent in the request on Monday I think, I'm still waiting on a phone call. =) -Dawnyel 295/255/
Guest guest
Hi Dawnyel, Welcome to the group! Talking to a Bariatric surgeon will help you decide if you really want to have WLS. Be honest about your diet & medical history. Remember this is your " life " your talking about. Most surgeons have a minimum BMI requirement for WLS, usually 40+ or 35+ with comorbidities. For most of us, surgery is a last resort, but it doesn't come easily. You still have to eat right, exercise and like a successful diet, you have to make permenant " lifestyle " changes. And with WLS, these changes are for LIFE! WLS is not an easy way out although it may seem like it to some people. This is a great group if your looking for support and information. Do you have an appointment with your Bariatric Surgeon yet? If your researching WLS on the internet, you'll most likely come across a few print-outs with questions to ask your surgeon. Some of the questions you may have thought of, others you may not have. They're a good guideline though. Keep us posted on your progress and Keep the faith! Blessings,Yvonne > > , > Thanks for the warm welcome! I actually joined a Lapband > group a few days ago, and it seems all I see is posts about complications. Guest guest
The waiting is the hardest part! Depending on where you live and how populated the area (busy docs) is, your waiting time could be short or drag out. Luckily I'm in a small town area so my wait has been fairly short, even though it doesn't seem like it! lol Keep in contact with your PCP and the referred surgeons office and don't hesitate to check in with them if you haven't heard anything by next week. Always helps to stay on top of things. Good Luck. I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with you! Blessings, Yvonne > > Yvonne, > I believe my BMI is 44, and I don't have an appointment > yet. Guest guest
Dawnyel, Yes I have Kaiser, I had my surgery at the South San Francisco Kaiser. The whole insurance thing was really painless for me, I only had a problem with losing the weight they wanted, but I got it done........Good luck with everything, keep us updated..... Guest guest
Dawnyel, Well from the first app. to surgery was about a year......But it could have been sooner if I would have gotten the weight off faster. I see from your numbers that you have already dropped 40 pounds......CONGRATS on that by the way......I hope you have already had your orientation?? I always tell people to not try and lose any weight until the orientation, because the weight lost outside the program does not count for them. They will still want you to lose around 10%......... Kaiser does everything in a classroom setting, so it was a large group of us and it was very impersonal........I don't like that at all but hey what are you going to do right.........So to answer your question they didn't tell me much.....They will give you a binder, now this binder is the Holy Bible as far as your going to be concerned. Learn it Read it Love it.....I know a couple of people that had been through this, so I didn't really have many questions. I went to the classes just kinda going through the motions and waiting for my surgery date......When they give you a weight to get to prior to surgery its not a suggestion and its not an idea of what weight you could be around......You need to get to that weight and then get under it by 5-10 pounds. If you put any weight back on after your first orientation, they can push your date back. If you want any " last supper's " , get them before orientation. If you have any questions, fire away.......Im off work right now and Im on the computer all the time, I will always write you back......
