Totti, I hope that your son's head doesn't need a band as well but if he does, I have to tell you it isn't that bad at all. My son adjusted to it great, he just gets hot sometimes which makes him cranky so he ends up in just a onsie. I go to Cranial Technologies in NJ and I really like it a lot. I haven't had any problems and I really like the band. They adjusted it the day we got it and I went in a few days later to have it adjusted again since it was giving my son the popeye look (squishing one eye) but since then it has fit perfectly. No red spots, nothing. From what I've read on this board and from my doctor's recommendations, it appears that Cranial Technologies is preferable to Hanger in this area anyways. If I went to Hanger, insurance would have paid 70% and with CT they pay nothing (although I am going to fight that) and I still went to CT. I did just find out Hanger

was covered, that is after I already had the DOCband but I still believe I would have gone with CT from what everyone on this board has said and the doctor's referral. Good luck with your decision. 70% covered is pretty good and at CT it is $3300 but you can make payments on a no interest up to 18 month payment plan. OK, I hope my rambling has helped. Good luck with your decision. Sybil totka parusheva <tparusheva@...> wrote: Hi , as i

HI , My son is 5 months old. Yes, we saw Purvi and she was really nice. She did not push to make any decision, but she said that he is going to be a good candidate for the band. As I said all the measurements were perfect match (literally to the mm), the one she thinks needs treatment is the height to width,I believe the height is 130mm, to 136mm width. She is saying that the perfect proportion should be 1:1.3, or 130:169, so you can see we are significantly off. My husband is really skeptical, and he thinks that his head is going to fix on his own (as our doctor said), he is saying that it might have to do something with genetics as well, as our heads are not perfect proportion either (or who has perfect proportions?). I am going to try repositioning while I wait to see what the insurance says etc., so I would really appreciate if anybody has any helpful tips for dealing with brachy and repositioning. Thank you in advance. Totticathyl65 <cathyl65@...> wrote: Hi,Hoping your visit with CT went Ok?. Unfortunately I think most of us here have listened to our doctors "it will round out or there is nothing wrong with our children's head" speech. But thanks to our mommy instincts which I would say everyone on this board eventually listens to which makes us go forward with treatments, most of the time against the doctor's word. My son was the same too as far as if you looked at him from the front or back it was his

profile where I saw how asymmetric he was that made me push for treatment for my son. I noticed you said you were using CT in NJ, did you by any chance see Pervi? She is one of the most senior orthotist at this location and is the one I saw as well as a couple of other mom's on this board. How old is your son ? I just emailed you asking to send me the appeal as well. We are facing a similar situation. We found out yesterday our son is a 'brachy'. We have UHC and were told today they will not cover it. Based on what Cranial Tech told me yesterday, I didn't really expect UHC to cover it, but was hoping since we were a +4.

5 months is still young but after 6 months, I don't think repositioning works very well and at that point I would make the decision to get the band if you are still not satisfied with his head. Your insurance could take a while to approve or deny the claim so you could always pay up front and then get reimbursed later. It seems to be common for insurance to deny at first and then sometimes cover after a dispute claim is submitted. CT has a payment plan which I am doing where you have 18 months to pay it off with no interst. It's pretty good and doesn't take a big hit on you all at once. If you wait for insurance, you may lose precious time. I banded at 7.5 months because I tried repo until about 6.5 months. I am happy I tried repo but if I did it over I probably would have started a month earlier. Good luck with everything. Sybiltotka parusheva

Totti, I forget if I replied to you or not but I've heard that CT is the place to go in this area and that some people have had a bad experience with Hanger. I know at CT all they work on is the head and babies with plagio and brachy so they are experts and at Hanger they work with all types of orthotics. I go to the CT in NJ and I really like it. My son has been in his band for 3 weeks already and it is going very smooth. I barely had any problems with the fit. He had the initial fitting, I went back a few days later for another adjustment since it was squashing down the skin on his forehead on one side making him look like Popeye and ever since I've had no problems. They are very attentive and I've called with tons of questions and my orthotist, Purvi, always calls back within an hour to answer my questions. Anyways, I hope you have a good experience. Let us know how it goes.
