HI Mike:

My psychologist told me that wording was fine because since you are aware of the

thought already. You are specifically addressing it (e.g. I am not going to

think about this) and then are stating you are going to enjoy yourself. I have a

book chapter anda few little printouts I was given. Just enough to overview the

idea and demonstrate some sample suggestions.

Excellent suggestion, but one point needs clarification.

And everything I have read and heard from any of them all stress one

key thing - the subconscious mind can not process a negative. It

does not matter what tne vizualized goal is, it must be framed

positively.

- Perhaps what I was given did not get into it that deeply. One example just has

you literally yelling " stop " then going into the action part. This sounds like

the same idea just maybe a different approach to it. It is short and simple so

it is easy to remember. All the examples I read had two parts - a specific

" command " to stop the unwanted thought then a " command " of reframing it.

The real point is that visualization and positive thinking do in

fact work.

I have done very little internally myself (as in trying to modify my

own behaviour), but have had it done to me while being worked on and

fairly frequently use it when I am working on someone else. It

sometimes amazes me what something as simple as a suggestion

to " concentrate your breath where my hand is - try to push my

fingers away with your breath " or " visualize a hose, flushing that

joint out " can accomplish. Many, many times, they no sooner follow

the suggestion and the tight muscle just releases - an instant

relaxation.

I haven't done a lot of study on the subject (yet - that comes up in

my next level of training in the spring) and was just passing along

what I have been told helps boost the effect.

Grand Rapids is the second largest city in Michigan. The city proper

is almost 200,000 people. The metro area is nearly 1 million.

I live downtown http://www.visitgrandrapids.org/downtown.php and

visit those places in the pictures almost every week. Interesting,

nobody is wearing coats in those pictures or running in from 40F

temps with nasty rain. I wonder why that is?

The Bridgwater webcam is one of the cooler shots of Grand Rapids live.

Michigan is a cool state to live in only because you can use your

hand as a map (for the lower pennisula at least). If I were to hold

my hand up as a map I would point to Michigan as being about mid-way

down on the palm on the far left (west, opposite the thumb). It's

about a 40 minute drive to the Lake Michigan lake shore. We're about

2.25 - 2.5 hours from downtown Detroit and only a bit further away

from Chicago. Both drives involve driving through reasonably

populated areas where there is always some sort of safety in being

able to pull over, find a gas station, food, bathroom, etc. Remember

that I don't do too well with long, vast stretches of boonies (like

Michigan's upper pennisula which I've been to once and then only a

few miles in).

Here's a map http://tinyurl.com/y8dsht

Here's a neat PDF with some of the buildings/stuff to check out:

http://tinyurl.com/vmtsz I live about 3 blocks east of the bottom of

#91.

Here's my current house http://tinyurl.com/sne4r. The jerks took the

picture before I had the driveway replaced so cut me some slack okay?

Here's where I first lived downtown 15+ years ago

Here's where I lived and the ex-wife still live. She's never going to

sell this house without getting a bathroom on the main floor I

contend. That was the plan before we got divorced.

I know you're married too but I'm holding out you've got a twin

sister or a cousin or something!
