wanting to get a wheelchair

For 3+ years that I've been on the CEDA list I've been trying to get the nerve

to speak up to my doctor about getting a wheel chair.

But when I *finally* asked my rheumie of only a year, he didn't answer.

After the last app't he referred me to a therapist for some hip/sciatic/back

problem? to be evaluated.

On the first PT visit I mentioned a wheel chair would help to take the load off

my leg/hip/knee joints for longer walking. He said he'd planned on suggesting

that to the doctor.

I hope the therapist is given the OK. wish me luck.

This therapist was really interested in finding out about EDS (internet and the

two EDS CD's). :D

Hi Cindy, I have found that the PT/OT have more pull with the insurance to get a

wheel chair ordered. They have the training in knowing if you are needing one

and how to fit you for comfort. They know which added pieces to order so you are

as comfortable as possible. In the end the Dr have to sign the paper. Dylan's

will be mainly for school. It will have adjustable arms, a removable tray, tilt

back head rest, extra high back, and leg lifts. When ordering they usually try

to look to the future to what you may need later. Insurance can accept or deny

each piece.

Absolutely, Good luck in getting your new wheels. Are you thinking about a

manual or electric? Cindy C.
